"on the very first day that you were born"? What, were there other days on which you were born? Or is the lyricist just trying to pad out the line? Yep, reckon that's it. Reminds me of the stupid song lyric "it's 4am in the morning" (can't remember what twit wrote that, Sting I think).

Were the song that followed at all interesting I'd be happy to overlook the silly lyric, but it's dull, oh so dull, James Blunt-style dull but even duller than that. Sadly dull, duller than paint drying, than grass growing in winter, than watching the test card

I always wondered what great musicians the Replacements replaced?

These guys really suck. Never did like them. Bring back the Replaced!

The band first formed in Southwest Minneapolis as Dogbreath in 1979 as a punk rock group. Bob Stinson, his brother Tommy Stinson, and Chris Mars had been jamming together in the Stinsons' house when they were approached by Paul Westerberg and his guitar, bringing the four together for the first time. Westerberg had been performing in a Rush cover band and heard Dogbreath as he walked home each day. He vowed that he would join the group, but they already had a singer. Westerberg, through series of well-placed lies and manipulations, put the band at odds with their singer and tensions soon forced the singer to depart; Westerberg joined the band soon after. The band then took the name The Impediments for its first show, which was at a halfway house, but they were kicked out for being drunk. The person who booked them vowed to have them blacklisted in Minneapolis-St. Paul, so they quickly changed their name to The Replacements.

Sure... about every 3rd show... Paul confessed that they couldn't do a great show every night, and it would most likely be "okay one night, crap the next, but then, mighty."

Thanks for commenting, but this album ain't even close to "Hootenanny" (which you quoted oh so well). Try ripping off any lyrics to 'Sadly Beautiful' (or any other cut on "All Shook" off the top of your head)--it ain't easy!

A great song from one of my all-time favorite discs. I wish I had seen these guys back in the day. I heard they put on quite a show.

Totally disagree. Great album. Not like Hootenanny and doesn't have any songs with lyrics like:

"First thing we do when we finally pull up.
Get sheeeiiitt faced drunk, try to sober up."

But, still good. :)

this really wasn't even a Replacements album. Basically, by this point it was Westerberg & whoever else showed for the session, but the label had to market it as a group album (which tanked, AGAIN!).

Really a sorry effort for a swan song from a fine band. :puke:
