Since when have you had an ocean — and ships? {#Hand} La Chascona, which the song references, was Pablo Neruda's house in Santiago, Chile. He had another house in Valparaiso, Chile and it was called something else... I do wonder though if Calexico got the names houses mixed up when writing this song.

My guess is that after spending time in Valparaiso Indiana, this song was not written about Valparaiso Indiana!
Did you notice where they said "Such a beautiful place?"

Neither popcorn or a university where students wish they had other scenery then cows and a Walmart parking lot would qualify for that description. Notice that you did not hear pickups honking and cows. Obviously, this was written about Valparaiso, Chile! LOL.

Come on, Hoosiers, turn your brains on. It won't kill you, I promise. =)

I see what you did there Bill!  Previous song, Bruce Cockburn mentions sitting in a bar listening to Superchunk and Friends of Dean Martinez.  2 guys from FoDM went on to form Calexico.

  I believe that this is the Brighton Hostal and if so, yes it did survive the earthquake. Amazing!

A friend of mine who lives in Valparaiso, Chile, lost his house in the recent earthquake . . . literally "carried to dust" . . . . {#Cry}  Fortunately, his wife and son got out with only minor scrapes and bruises, and my friend wasn't injured at all.

This CD is sooogood, and seeing these guys live here in Carrboro was amazing - so good, that we are going to fly to Tucson to see them next Sunday.  We're groupies at 50!
