Carl Radle IIRC.  He was one strung out dude by my rememberences, but he was in some mighty big and important music back in those days.  One can listen to the total or the sum of the parts.  I'll just listen to the total.  Synergy just sounds better somestimes.

This is why George is my favorite Beatle. Greatness resides in this song.

Absolutely brilliant, the version played live at his memorial concert with Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, McCartney; et al, was even better, if possible....

Ahhhhhh - the teenage memories of listening to this in my folks family room soon after this came out - only vinyl then. For an excellent cover, check out Bettye Lavette - she spins it so well.

i'll bet lennon was saying in '74 "isn't it a pity i rejected this song waaay back in '66?".     kudos george...this song along with your guitar solo on "let it be" were two HUGE f-ups by lennon-mccartney.............this belonged on revolver and the guitar solo belongs in let it be......isn't it a pity mccartney had become such a despot by then that two versions had to be released?

It's a Pity and a Shame that the Beatles imploded the way they did.  Love em or hate em, it's hard to deny the influence that they've had on modern music.  Given another 10 years to make music together, who knows how wonderful (or how awful) it could have gotten.

Watched the Concert for George last weekend.  At times I was moved to tears.  They did the "Hey Jude thing" at the end of this tune.

Cowboy Junkies - Harrison´s Isn't It A Pity

Cowboy Junkies performing George Harrison cover live in Liverpool

Astoundingly good. Wow.    MrSteeDoo

i think the mark of a good song writer, as George was, is that his songs sound great even when interpreted by other musicians. it's open enough to go in so many beautiful directions, without ever losing George's intent and vision. This is my favorite cover of this song by far.    theonlydavepowers

cowboy junkies are exquisite custodians of soul and taste. ...we are blessed to have them step in for their reading of this timeless song, penned by a (believe it or not) underrated author.    Rpaulie53

A great great song from one of the finest post- Beatle efforts. For my money John's Plastic Onon Band record ranks up there but it is an uncomfortable listen at times.  Billy Preston does a great version of this song on the Concert for George.

All kudos to Paul and John, but they didn't have this depth of musicians line-up, writing spirit, or production (Phil Spector!) going for them. (Fookin' A, George, why'd you have to be a cigarette addict?)
My Sweet Lord, Wah Wah, Isn't it a Pity and What is Life are about as good as a four-play can get.

ATMP would be my choice also for best solo album by any Beatle. Can't agree with you on Phil Spector, though. While he doesn't overpower all of the songs there are definitely a few I'd like to see "de-Spectored".
