Saw SDQ at a dance—remember those?—in Marin Co. probably 1967. They wore Kinks-style Edwardian suits and Seinfeld-style frilly shirts. They got their hit—this one—out of the way and then absolutely got down with an unholy mix of Tex-Mex, R&B, and gutbucket rock'n'roll. I don't know what we were expecting, probably more pseudo British invasion stuff, but we were blown away.

Yet another song I'd never heard before - so I like the Los Lobos rendition, but I'm pretty sure there are purists who prefer the original, which, as mentioned before, I've never heard. I love Los Lobos now - it took a little time, but they've definitely proven they aren't a one-trick pony.  I'm in the mood for them, and I hope to get a lot of their music on MP3 so I can load it onto my player, since it looks like I'll be working six days a week until the end of the season. Upbeat music will be a mainstay....
