I dunno. I just don't like Joni Mitchell. I've heard plenty of her work, and it always just strikes me as supercheese. The first thing that comes to mind is some dark bar with vinyl barstools, the smell of cheap beer and stale peanuts, and a beaten-down jukebox cranking out Joni's brand of jazz-o-lounger music. Like she's trying for the kind of cool hipness you find in a close-quarters brick basement club and instead gets hay on the floor and Milwaukee's Best.

Oh well.

Dated. But I've always preferred Joni's version to the more popular take on this song.

That's not true. The person who posted before you seemed pretty cool actually.

from Michael Hedges to Joni. I've been needing a fix of groovy!
A little bit of escapism in this crazy world is okay I think! We need to refresh and rejuvinate and listen to the music play more often.

Joni just can't sing.

I must conclude that you don't know what singing is. This was extraordinary!

I'm wondering how people who associate themselves predominantly with very different sounding music - like rap, techno, current pop, House, jazz, New Music, classical, etc. - feel about Joni Mitchell's music and voice?

... This is a truly wonderful song about a time and a place in Rock'n'Roll History, even if Joni couldn't quite make the gig herself she certainly made up for it with this definative mizterpiece...

Actually this IS the original. Or more precisely, a cover of herself -- this song was written by Joni Mitchell, not CSNY.

Performance Lesson 101 - Here's how to take some cool lyrics, a good groove and interesting melody and add some truly lousy vocals. Joni just can't sing. "Everybody was singing and dancing and having fun" has to be one of the worst improvisations I've ever heard.
