I was always a little indifferent towards these guys until I saw them live.  They blew me away.  Flea is a PREMIER bassist and the rest of the band are top notch musicians.  The put on a great live show.

Probably not much more than any other group from the 1960s and '70s, really - unless you're specifically listening just for that.  It's not as if Old Navy has been experiencing a great demand for tights and codpieces from the '90s onward.  Good song.

I don't feel quite as strongly as you—this song is pretty good—but they never did it for me. I see a lot of similar comments on RP. 

Some folks love RHCP. To each their own.

I admit it, I just never got these guys.
I guess they're "stretching themselves" by trying to introduce melody into their musical repertoire, but Keidis' "voice" and "range" were never up to the task.
When they're funky, they're funky. I'll give you that.

6/8 Time can be called "double-waltz" or "compound" waltz time, but this is certainly not the only "waltz-based" hit of the 1990's. "Kiss From A Rose" by Seal is one that comes to mind - there are probably others.

I didn't get the Tull thing (re: comment below), but there at the end, it really caught me. So I rated this a little higher than I was gonna. But on its own, it's still one of my favorite RHCP tunes. I like the acoustic-y-ness of it.

What?!  Thankfully I don't hear that.  This is quite enjoyable.  Sort of jazzy but definitely not medieval-sounding.  These guys drew inspiration from a diverse variety of artists, so anything is possible, I guess.
