The old man said to me
Said don't always take life so seriously
Play the flute
And dance and sing your song
Try and enjoy the here and now
The future will take care of itself somehow
The grass is never greener over there
Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone
Chorus
Don't try to live your life in one day
Don't go speed your time away
Don't try to live your life in one day
Don't go speed your time away
The old man said to me
Said you can't change the world single-handedly
Raise a glass enjoy the scenery
Pretend the water is champagne
And fill my glass again and again
While the wolves are gathering round your door
Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone
The old man said to me
Said don't always take life so seriously
Play the flute
And dance and sing your song
Try and enjoy the here and now
The future will take care of itself somehow
The grass is never greener over there
Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone
I tried to live my life in one day
Don't go speed your time away
I bit off more than I can chew
Only so much you can do
Wolves are gathering round my door
Ask them in and invite some more
I tried to live my life in one day
Don't go speed your time away
| ajudd (Seattle, WA) | Posted: Jun 30, 2004 - 00:36 Always enjoyed HJ- very talented fellow. I also saw him live (by himself and a VERY large bank of synthesizers). For you folks knocking the 80's I just would like to point out at this very same concert I saw Joe Strummer, then Mick Jones+ Joe Strummer with Big Audio Dynamite in the background, followed by some great reggae from Aswad. Great music, regardless of the years. I will however admit this particular tune (never the best to begin with) has not aged well. Personally, I would rather hear than almost this anything from the Seattle - Grunge era of the 90's ... But since the 90's crap seem so good to so many on RP- I suggest we throw some Britney and Justin in for fun! (guess we all have our generations) |
| Enrique | Posted: Jun 30, 2004 - 00:32 Dear Lord. Truly horrible. |
| Leslie (Antioch, CA) | Posted: Jun 16, 2004 - 19:19 This is the first time I have ever heard this song and I hope it's that last. Well okay, maybe not the last but if this is indeed from the 80's it only reminds me that I did the right thing by listening mainly to the Dead during that decade. |

| masterhead | Posted: Apr 12, 2004 - 10:03 I just got the best of HJ, I was surprised of other songs I never heard before, this is not his best song and I have to agree it is a little annoying |

| MsfStl (Clayton (2028 miles east of Paradise), MO) | Posted: Apr 12, 2004 - 10:02 Whats next the Barney Song? I thought I was listening to some kids TV soundtrack, telle-tubbies, I don't know, just ...please, please....make it go away! (pimp) |
| pkeys (Santa Clara, CA) | Posted: Apr 12, 2004 - 10:01 A truly irritating keyboard riff.... |
| gregorbill (PDX) | Posted: Mar 30, 2004 - 17:09 When this album was new I was embarassingly into Howard Jones. This stuff has not aged well. I can't really enjoy listening to it anymore. |
| GordianKnot (Seattle, WA) | Posted: Mar 30, 2004 - 17:04 How low does an average rating have to be for a song to get booted from the playlist? I hope this becomes a candidate for such a thing very soon. Makes me feel like I am back in the 80's.......not a good thing. |
| Johng (San Luis Obispo, CA, 386 miles south of Paradise) | Posted: Mar 18, 2004 - 10:51 Does not belong on your fine station. |
| ladybinnath (Buffalo, NY) | Posted: Mar 18, 2004 - 10:42 A near-perfect example of why the 80s were a truly horrid decade. |
| redeyespy (West Palm Beach, FL) | Posted: Jul 10, 2003 - 18:28 More energetic fun from HJ. Play "New Song." |
