Guessing it was Derek Trucks, he has a credit on the album per AMG, but of course, they don't break it down by song.

I was thinking the song was a 7 and the slide took it to 9... at least on that listen.  Thanks Bill and Rebecca.

Oh yeah.............. thats Derek!!!!

I give this a one because I think it is just about the worst song on the RP playlist. I mean, it's " Cake," bad. Unlistenable.

There are 32 instances of the word "broken" in this song.  By the end, I was convinced that everything was indeed broken.

Hard to rate this one.  Song's just about a 10 for me but then an extra point by RLB covering it means....this goes to 11? Factor in that I have a strict policy stating I can't rate a cover version above 9 without a written order from the President, and that explains why there is smoke pouring out of my ears.  I'll leave it at a 9 for now unless I hear from the POTUS.

Burnside's version doesn't have a lot of juice behind it, kinda subdued.  Better than Dylan, tho'.

When I first heard ''Oh Mercy,'' like a lot of critics I thought it sucked. Over time it's somehow gotten better and better. This song is a gem, as is ''Man in the Long Black Coat.'' First impressions are often wrong. Love this R.L. Burnside cover. Brilliant song, brilliant performer.

Great song, yes. But Dylan wrote it. It was on his excellent "Oh Mercy" CD back in the mid 90s. This version was done in 1999.

Burnside was an old-time Mississippi Delta bluesman who found a new, younger audience during his last decade (thanks in great part to The Sopranos). He died shortly after surviving Katrina in 2005.

I would argue that Burnside's music is more Mississippi hill country blues than Delta blues. But I'm no expert... Either way, it's lovely to hear him on RP.
