![]() Damn The Torpedos (1979) [ larger cover art ] |
You know sometimes, I don't know why
But this old town just seems so hopeless
I ain't really sure, but it seems I remember the good times
Were just a little bit more in focus
But when she puts her arms around me
I can somehow rise above it
Yeah, man when I got that little girl standin' right by my side
You know, I can tell the whole wide world shove it, hey!
Here comes my girl, here comes my girl
Yeah, and she looks so right, she is all I need tonight
Every now and then I get down to the end of the day
And I have to stop and ask myself why I've done it
It just seems so useless to have to work so hard
And nothin' ever really seems to come from it
And then she looks me in the eye and says,
"We're gonna last forever"
And man, you know I can't begin to doubt it
No, 'cause it just feels so good and so free and so right
I know we ain't never gonna change our minds about it - hey!
Here comes my girl, here comes my girl
Yeah, and she looks so right, she is all I need tonight (Watch her walk)
Every time it seems like there ain't nothin' left no more
I find myself having to reach out and grab hold of something
Yeah, I just catch myself wondering, waiting, worrying
About some silly little things that don't add up to nothin'
And then she looks me in the eye and says,
"We're gonna last forever"
And man, you know I can't begin to doubt it
No, 'cause it just feels so good and so free and so right
I know we ain't never gonna change our minds about it - hey!
Here comes my girl, here comes my girl
Yeah, and she looks so right, she is all I need tonight

You can add: Elvis Costello - Armed Forces, Joe Jackson - Look Sharp AND I'm The Man, Dire Staits - Communique, The B52s - The B52s, Cheap Trick - At Budokan, Police - Regatta de Blanc, and all three acts of Zappa's Joe's Garage. |
| dstehle | Posted: Aug 30, 2010 - 05:30 I like Tom Petty...but...based on the amount of TP I hear on Radio Paradise, Tom must be a blood relation. Although the new album is very good. |
| thaidirect | Posted: Jun 27, 2010 - 09:01 You can't go wrong with a Tom Petty classic. |

The last time was about 2 years ago with Pearl Jam as the opening act - dynomite! The best I ever saw was in the mid-80's when they toured with Bob Dylan. The Hearbreakers were the opening act and played for about an hour and a half. Then they came back out as Bob Dylan's touring band and did over 2 hours with him. Unforgetable! They took that tour up another notch by teaming up with the Grateful Dead for stadiums in the Summer of '86. Petty-> Petty/Dylan->The Dead->Dylan and the Dead. Fantastic. |

Paso Robles California isn't the venue for solo acoustic Dylan but get the Heartbreakers on with him and you got yourself a Rock & Roll Show. Tom Petty &TH are well worth overplaying. Always an outsider even when he's selling out stadiums, always intense onstage. |

| Mr_Wilson (Long Island, NY) | Posted: Jun 01, 2009 - 06:25 One of my favorite TP songs, and even though it's not one I need to hear on the radio anymore, it's still great. Overplayed doesn't necessarily make a song bad. And maybe there are people a lot younger than me for whom it's not so familiar. |
