I can say half of this album is great and the other half is hopeless! This is one of the best tunes.

I had been sitting here all day working with a listen to RP and then Knopfler's tune was spinning.
My toes went ballistic and I did the air dance in the chair. Where is that Mark that put out some really
 kick butt music ? Interesting direction into ballads, but he must have a R&R soul down there somewhere, because

What a load of hyperbolic crap. "Worst lyricist ever?"  Industrial Disease, What It Is, Tunnel of Love, Lady Writer... I think you may be neglecting to mention maybe 3,000 other song writers as "worst."

Knopfler - amazingly frustrating in the post-Dire Straits era. Loved Sailing to Philadelphia...bored by just about all the rest. Just when I think he's gonna put two or three high end tunes together, he mosies along with a heaping dollop of mood pieces that put me to sleep.  The, just when I am ready to write him off, he lays out some blistering guitar...but not often enough.  Maybe if he found some consistent musical partners whom he respected and would listen to for feedback to improve his songwriting....oh right....that was Dire Straits....
 
Maybe Sonny Landreth needs another guitar in the band (see "Congo Square"), or maybe he can join Brian Ferry (see "Boys and Girls") for another album.

Yeah...Mark is a player...listen to the instrument, enjoy the music and relax. The guitar at the end of this is lovely.

A Dire Straits was the first CD I got (when they were just coming on to replace vinyl). I really liked it then but never really appreciated how good they and Mark Knopfler were until I started listening to RP.

I picked up this CD years ago in a clearance bin and believe it to be one of the wisest purchases I've made musically! I love (early) Dire Straits and think Knopfler is a genius. I can even over look the Princess Bride soundtrack, he's that good! :)

Thanks for playing this and some more songs from that CD wouldn't hurt either.
