Here in the cubicle zoo, sometimes the music is background to whatever you're doing. Just now I heard an unmistakable slide signature, "That's Bonnie Raitt! But who's that singing?"

I like this version better than the original. Which is unfortunately the case for many John Hiatt tunes.

Met Buddy at his 'Legends' bar in Chi-Town.  Had a nice mid-afternoon conversation with him, sitting at the bar.  Saw him live quite a few times, most recently at The Commodore in Vancouver.  A gentle, soft spoken man with huge freaking hands.

His record "Damn Right I Got The Blues" (1990) is seminal Chicago blues.

Well, I like Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt's version, too, but I agree - John Hiatt gave it a lot more gritty soul.

It was a really amazing moment: Buddy suddendly came down from the stage without stopping playing and did a walk in the middle crowd: really an amazing moment (indeed, I can't get how I managed to take some clear pictures, my hands were shaking heavily... ;) )

Went to a business convention about 10 years ago in Chicago.Took a cab by myself downtown to listen to some blues.Went to Buddy Guy's Legends club and sat at the bar.A decent band was on stage but me and a girl next to me were staring straight ahead deep in conversation when she said..."don't look now,but Buddy is sitting next to you".I turned to my right and said hello to a legend.He was drinking Heineken(on the rocks)and spent the next 10 minutes talking to me about his tour,his daughter(going to college)and the current status of the blues in the U.S.He was the most humble,decent big time musician I've ever met(I've met a few).Thanks Buddy .BTW...he laughed out loud when I told him I was a harp player.

A friend of mine dragged me to a venerable club in Phoenix, AZ to see him in 2002. This Guy has an incomparable stage presence even in his 60's. Put a lyre in his hands and send him back to the dark ages and we'd still know his name.
