Of course, the original song and especially the live version on live rust are better... but Neil's voice! So fragile, the emotion will live forever!

The accordion? lol Nice try... your obvious lack of an ear for music is proven on your opinion of his voice too...  0 for 2.. maybe commenting on music isn't your thing {#Shhh}

I'll buck popular opinion with you, Bill- this is truly beautiful to me. I puts me in an expansive, yet empty, state of mind. Wait, that might be the weed.

Likewise.  That's always been Neil's trademark.

Hey, I was there too. Neil (and this song) combined with the actual harvest moon was fantastic. If I remember right, Shawn Colvin (who I wasn't aware of at the time) opened for him.

Sorry took so long to reply... what about 3 years? lol yeah the relatively unknown Shawn Colvin and an old veteran John Hammond: check out my journal entry http://www.radioparadise.com/rp_2.php#name=Journal&file=show_entry&jid=13163

Well, I saw burnt out hippy in Seattle two weeks after the last comment and detected no senior moments, observed intense, organized, sustained energy, heard new music reflective of where he is in the life span, and witnessed a display of love for his work and for those present participants who revere burnt out hippie.

I agree.  I can't understand the hate here for this version.  I find it deeply moving - I love the vulnerability in Young's voice.  And the organ really makes it for me!

It's only Neil Young's reputation that keeps anyone from admitting this is a god awful piece of crap. The music sucks and not a single word is in tune.

I DJ'd a wedding once where the 'embarrassing uncle' happened to be a piper. They warned me about him, and told me to drown him out if he walked in with the bagpipes. The time came, and I quickly realized that a 2000 Watt sound system is no match for a set of highland pipes. I turned off the music and enjoyed the show.

I have a friend that pipes for the Fire Service pipe band. He was recently issued with ear defenders by his employers as British Health and Safety regulations state that bagpipes exceed safe noise limits. Needles to say no one in the band wears them but it allows the lawyers to cover themselves.

Neal marches to the beat of his own drum. Just watched the PBS "American Masters" documentary" two nights ago..... saw him two years ago at the bowl with CSN....he has heart. I liked the observation about him: "It's like someone struck a rock, and music poured out of Neil Young"

All I have to say is, when you've felt, I mean really felt, the emotions he eludes to with voice and lyric, every one who didn't care for this song would totally get it.  I could never begin to explain this odd mixture of feelings in this particular time in my life, of the places this reaches in my soul...a place I didn't even know existed.  This song nails it....  And if you've seen/heard the version with the guitar solo at the end...it's mind-blowing, just incredible...  What a talented human being.

Personally, I'm thankful for artists such as NY who expose such raw and personal places of themselves.  I also love the comment from the person who wrote "this is what it feels like to cry".   They obviously get it.  That's the cool thing about music...some things reach some people, others do not.  All great artists are not loved by everyone, nor is every song adored by every fan every time.  It is the truly great artist, who writes and plays what he wants, regardless of how he thinks it will be accepted.

The other thing I wanted to mention about the references to Adam Sandler...You do realize that he has a new CD out where he plays his own rendition of this song, don't you?  No spoof mind you, the real thing.  And I have to say, he did a darn good job.

Agreed - great comment.

But I still can't stand NY.  I respect him.  But I can't stand most of his stuff.
