Ugh. A contrast to the Pretenders live. This sucks. It was a bad song originally. This "version" brings it to a new low. {#Clap}

Agreed.  Which is why Little Feat's Waiting for Columbus (an astoundingly well-recorded album from not much later) gets my vote for best live rock recording ever.  But this is a close second. . . .

The audience sounds so amazingly unenthusiastic at the end. I've heard louder crowds at a ligyrophobiacs anonymous meeting. Of course I can't say if it's the recording or just the interminable song.

always been fascinated by the cover of this LP.
simple & straight & rough & with enough white space: for filling up with your own imagination....
just like the music itself....

Blue Plaque Unveiling
...

Daltrey and Townshend thanked the University of Leeds; both for inviting them to play the original gig and for inviting them back.

“Without those unions to play to play, the venues were thin on the ground, so my big thanks to Leeds for being there” said Roger Daltrey.

Townshend added: “This is the perfect, perfect venue to start this tour. I’m so happy and so made up to be here.”

Now don't get me wrong, I love the Who but this song has it's place and it's not here. At least not for me. But it has generated a lot of praise from fellow RP listeners, so I'll just go get another beer, and hey! now they're playing R.E.M.

Bet ya people aren't as forgiving of R.E.M. as I've been of the Who!!! (at least this song, mind you).

For absolute sure. If you don't like this stuff, plain and simple, you don't like Rock and Roll!

I've bought this thing like 5 times. When it first came out on LP, then 8-track, then on CD, then again when they remastered it, and again when they reissued the whole concert.

The whole show is absolute amazing--they do most (all?) of Tommy, and that's on the second disc. One of the better reissues w/ extra songs that I've purchased.

Each of these rock'n'roll madmen were at the TOP of their game in this one, baby! and what a game it was! Yes, def one of the best live recordings EVER...The chugging, relentless bass, the ripping Pete runs, those Daltrey vokes, and man, could Moonie bang 'em!
Yes, I was a Who-crazed, Doors-dazed kid who used to freak my parents out by loving the heck out of this stuff, turning it up so loud they could hear it from down the street as they drove up to the house to open the front door and find me windmilling and jumping around like PT -- and once I busted a bulb way up on the ceiling -- and screaming the blood-curdling way Rodg did, and Ox-ing in one place for a bit, and then Moon-bashing like I was plumb crazy; well, and you know what? That URGE is still there, man...Like, a child is like a flower, man - his head is just -- floating in the breeze, man! and The Who can still blow the cobwebs away anytime I hear 'em...Saw 'em twice back in the day, and would love to again! Raw, angry, charged and dangerously full of power. YEAH!

I still feel this way. I can't do the scream anymore, but air-play all the instruements and jump around like Pete does. My 17 and 20 year old kids do ALSO! We have been going to the tours that restarted in 1997 and they STILL ROCK. Zac ain't bad on the drums, either. da WHO!
