You don't need some complex bulls*it to make a great rock song. A terrific hook, have something to say, good singin' and playin' and just get in the flow and say it, I think Tina Weymouth epitomizes that - she can barely play the 4 strings on her bass tht's almost as big as she is, but she plays her simple little line just right!

Okay, maybe you didn't mean to damn Tina with faint praise, but for the record...she's a whale of a bass player, impeccable pace and timing, musical lines, and the ability to play within the demands of the song—and sometimes lead the song. "Take Me To The River" is an example of the latter. Check out her technique on the "Stop Making Sense" DVD, and you'll see for yourself.

Tina Weymouth has always been a pretty skilled bass player.  She played with a lot more syncopation and feel than many other "rock/pop" bass players.

Great songs endure. This one sounds good whether the Heads are doing it, Shawn Colvin, or the host of others. This one can change the mood of the whole day...and 'Remain In Light' can change weeks or months.

How can you not like this song?  I really don't understand why so many people feel compelled to express their dislike of David Byrne and the Talking Heads on this site.

Us fans don't really care if you dislike them, it isn't like we are going to change our minds if enough people post.

I envy you that memory. I missed that show of theirs, even though I was in T.O. then (and still am). Heard lots about it afterwards.

Not a big fan of this Talking Heads of David Byrne.  However, I was a huge fan of Air America.

I used some of the lyrics from this song as a toast to my daughter and her wonderful husband at their wedding.  They were moving away from us a week after the wedding, and I used it to show that their homes were now with one another.  This song now has a great deal of meaning.  I love this version, but I think Shawn Colvin's version is actually much more wistful and heartfelt.

As time went on, Byrne started to sound too cloying and self-aware, and he does to this day. I love the earlier stuff, but later he became irrelevant.

Amusing story - I used to play around on this song with one of the guys in Arcade Fire (this was back around 2002 or so).  Can't remember if we ever played it out at a club, might have been just us messing around in practice.  A few years later, my friend was on stage playing this song with David Byrne.  I still can't get over that.
