Whenever I hear this I get a tear in my eye for all those I've loved in my life who have left me here alone.

I'll stroke my (not) hipster beard and say, I had this on vinyl when it first came out.  I had a very hip big sister.  Love TB and JB.   The fates are tough on demigods.

I like the "I was too far out all my life, not waving but drowning." The marvelous Stevie Smith wrote this, and she knew this well.

This song is gorgeous. Thanks for playing it.

Taking a melodic journey back in time to a place and time of sweet scents and loving memory, of a snapshot in my life when the world was spinning true, and here I am today thinking of you . . . that special woman from way back.  Great Tune!

Oh what a heavenly love song. Tim was also a very powerful vocalist. Saw him twice when he and his band were touring "Postcard from L.A.". Now, that album was very hot and raunchy, indeed! A total departure from this. I love both sides of this mercuric performer.
RIP, Tim...

What neuticle said.

Also, I first heard this song on the old Ricky Gervais (and Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington) XFM show.  It was from a show that was aired I believe in December of 2001, or somewhere thereabouts.  I heard an MP3 recording of it years later.  Anyhow, that's my not-so-fun fact.

Anyone who uses Winamp or iTunes to listen to RP should download "Minilyrics". it's a great lyrics player that accesses an online database to look for the lyrics to songs. It's got a TON of lyrics. Some are in the form of text files (so they're static) but others are .lrc (lyric) files and are synced to the song. This is one that's synched. the lyrics are great.

Just upped it to a 9. One for the fact it was a tune before the word eclectic was used and two because it was a tune that was in tune with my mood at the moment.

Ditto for me - although, in all fairness, I'd bet the difference in the times - emotional climate, recording capabilities, etc. - has a fairly large impact on my overall impression. No way to know how much.

Just an FYI for fans of this song, Glen Hansard is currently on tour opening for Eddie Vedder and when I saw him he opened with a positively BRILLIANT solo acoustic version of this song.

Tim Buckley was the artist being played the first time I was introduced to audiophile / studio-level sound.
I had never heard of him before, and my friend had a first generation of the master reel from "Greetings from LA" and his own mix.  There were other things we listened to, but it was Tim Buckley who simply blew me away, and stuck in my mind so that I remember it like it was yesterday.  Whenever I listen to the released version of the Greetings album, it makes me wish I could hear that master again.  (The CD is good, don't get me wrong!)  I don't know how much of it is my tendency to romanticize things I remember from a bygone era, how much is due to the impact of my first exposure to really high quality tape / monitoring / good room, and how much is due to the fact that the music is complex enough that the mix could be opinionated in vastly different ways.  Sadly, that ship has sailed, and I won't be finding out.
