![]() White Ladder (1999) [ larger cover art ] |
Friday night, I'm going nowhere
All the lights are changing, green to red.
Turning over TV stations
Situations running through my head.
Looking back through time, you know
It's clear that I've been blind; I've been a fool.
To open up my heart to all that jealousy
That bitterness, that ridicule.
Saturday I'm running wild and
All the lights are changing red to green.
Moving through the crowds, I'm pushing.
Chemicals are rushing in my bloodstream.
Only wish that you were here
You know I'm seein' it so clear-I've been afraid
To show ya how I really feel
Admit to some of those bad mistakes I've made
And if you want it, come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart, let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart, let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon
Babylon
Babylon
Sunday all the lights in London shining
Sky is fading, red to blue.
Kickin' through the Autumn leaves
And wondering where it is you might be going to
Turning back for home
You know I'm feeling so alone, I can't believe
Climbin' on the stair
I turn around to see you smiling there
in front of me
And if you want it, come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was, giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart, let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart, let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart, let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart, let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon
Babylon
Babylon
Babylon
Babylon...aaaah

It has some similar chord embellishments (i.e. hammer-ons, pull-offs) in parts of the strumming (as do hundreds of other songs), but the chords do not sound alike. |
| gregr79 | Posted: Apr 29, 2013 - 09:49 Goyahey - Babylon and on and on for cryin oulouuud! Nice for a quick pop tune! |

| ziakut (Slightly North of Obvlivion) | Posted: Dec 19, 2012 - 08:04 Sadly it's annoying to me. I do like the music...wish David would just hum or something. |
| hightail | Posted: Sep 16, 2012 - 01:27 Not a massive fan of David Gray but this is his best track and it's nice to have a pop song every now and then. Cheers Bill. Greetings from England! |
| Easyrider (Portugal) | Posted: Sep 16, 2012 - 01:26 Great song from an under rated artist. |

| 84MacGuy (Portland, Oregon) | Posted: Jun 13, 2012 - 12:00 First time I heard this song was in a Warren Miller ski movie years ago. Then, I heard it over and over and over again as it got overplayed on the radio. However, it is nice to hear again after a few years. |
| lindergr55 | Posted: Jun 13, 2012 - 12:00 Love this song! Takes away the blues. |

| Grammarcop (Upriver from Zug Island) | Posted: Feb 07, 2012 - 15:00 I'll admit I'm fond of this song for nostalgic reasons: I heard it on the radio in Reykjavik, Iceland. What an amazing trip! |

I highly recommend that DVD - solid perfomance of a great singer/songwriter at the peak of his going from relative obscurity to the world stage. +1 on this. Live At The Point is an outstanding concert DVD. Saw David Gray live a few years back....he knows how to get a crowd going. I would imagine that many of the negative comments are from North Americans who have only heard Babylon, and heard it a thousand times. He is immensely more popular in Europe. Much like his countryman, Chris Rea. Anyway, I like Dave - good songwriter, good singer, GREAT performer. |
| gregormiz (Portland, OR) | Posted: Oct 03, 2011 - 19:49 Aw, for crying out loud... is it really that bad? Heh. Wanky, for sure. |

I used to not like David Gray until he came out with White Ladder, then he became a sort of musical demi-god for me, which was weird, considering how much I used to dislike him. White Ladder is, for me, one of the greatest albums of the past... maybe 10 years? But I could say that about something like 30 albums. Oh, are they called albums anymore? *Age showing* |
