Not being familiar with The Dead version, I'm not prejudiced against this take on the song and I'm finding it quite enjoyable.

A nice treat to hear some Neville Bros. here, even if it isn't the most inspired cover. With such a wealth of outstanding material, not sure why the NB don't get more airtime. Their cover of Steve Miller's Fly Like an Eagle is outstanding, not to mention a sea of fantastic original material dating back to their Meters days.

Thanks for this one, hope to hear some more...

I have to agree. This isn't horrible or anything, it's just missing something. Like a bland dish that needs some seasoning.

I like the Neville Brothers, but the Dead does this song right.  When I hear the Dead do it, I want to jump out of my chair and start dancing.  When I hear this version, I just want to sink into my chair.

What tosh, I'll take this over the Dead any day. Bright and lively and with a great beat.

I like this song for what it is.  The Neville Brothers' version is the only one I've heard - had no idea it was a Dead song, and now, knowing that, it doesn't matter. I still like it. I could change my mind, though - I've had a glass of wine (after a pretty brutal day at work), the sun is shining, and I have tomorrow off, so who knows what could happen between now and, oh, tomorrow?{#Roflol}

Oh - and then to follow a Dead cover with a Dead song.... Bill, you're on a roll! {#Sunny}

Seems strange when not sung by Jerry.

It's ok, not great though.

Cyril's vocals always seemed much too forced for my liking.  Love the songs with Aaron or Art taking the lead.  Aaron's boy Ivan is also very talented and is the 5th Neville on stage.

I didn't realize the significance of this "fire" set:

"9:09 am - Neville Brothers - Fire On The Mountain
"9:03 am - Doves - Walk In Fire
"9:00 am - Sam Phillips - Fighting With Fire
"8:57 am - Sebadoh - On Fire
"8:54 am - Pixies - Dig For Fire"

until I looked at the Radio Paradise home page, where it says

"Thank you, firefighters!

"As you might have heard, we have a very serious fire situation here in Paradise, CA. Over 10,000 people have been evacuated from the lower third of the town. Fortunately for us, we live in the area furthest away from the fire and are quite likely going to be just fine, but the situation really makes us appreciate the hard work and dedication of our firefighters. Without them, a bad situation would be much, much worse.

"We'll be keeping a close eye on the fire status, and are ready to leave if we need to. Thanks for all of the kind words and positive thoughts."

Thanks for heroically keeping the music flowing, Bill and Rebecca.

I love the Neville Bros., but this does not hold a candle to the Dead. Sorry.

I am sure that this song (as performed by the Nevilles) would be great in concert, so long as they sped up the tempo a bit.
