They grew on me too. When I was a teen/20 something, I didn't care for the original Depeche Mode but after their newer stuff came out in the 2000s, I really liked them.

I had an employee who adored Depeche Mode. I always wondered why? After listening to several of their songs I have to say that they really grow on you. It feels gooooood! And I dooooo feeeeel a litttttllllle biiiiiit of looove. {#Kiss}

What a surprise. I really enjoyed this. I hardly know any of their work. I only remember their name and have a vague impression that they were the perpetrators of a couple of silly videos that got way too much airplay in MTV's debut years. That category, however, is littered with the desecrated bodies of now-forgotten bands. This song convinces me that I should be paying closer attention.

Regardless of what you think about the song itself, their production has always been on the cutting edge of electronic music, they've pioneered many many sounds.

man, i haven't thought about those albums in years (decades?). it made me check out the tracklist on amazon. broken frame is where you can find the original "Leave in Silence", one of depeche's best regardless of era.

If, by "great stuff" you mean "horribly dated stuff" then I agree wholeheartedly. And by "horribly dated" I mean "horribly dated by the time Violator came out".

They really retained their cult status in the States, more so than in U.K, much like the Cult, Cure,etc

Despite its good radio success when it came out, I hinestly think Dream On is not so much "Depeche Mode" and has not so much impact. The lyrics are quite interesting falling in their subgenre which I'm unable to clearly focus about.

I really appreciate RP playing DM, but there are so many better songs than "Dream On". Like the rest of "Exciter" (surely their most ironic album title), this is incredibly boring.

Looking forward to their new album next month. The few songs I've heard of it are all miles better than their last two offerings combined.
