Janis Joplin would be a good example of that. Imagine Janis with proper pronunciation and diction.  She'd be Linda Ronstadt...

The vocals in this are part of the mood.  Let it flow over you instead of picking everything apart.

I too have 100s of CDs, but I have loads of female singers. Beth Orton currently is one of them, but when I hear things like this, I wonder why... Monotonous, out of tune, slurred, in fact she sounds like she's completely stoned.

I generally like Beth Orton, but I'm finding this song annoying....and her tone seems a little too broad. Almost flat?

I have purchased two of her cds (based on rp listens), Central Reservation
being one of them - I would have to disagree, unique voice, and a
refreshing lyrical rhythm - give it all 10 plays, and re-post if you feel
differently

I just bought this disk based on RP. After 2 listens, I can't recommend it. So whiny! Every song sounds the same (but the first track, which is the one I had heard...) Hopefully it will grow on me. I give em ten spins, and if I can't relate by then, off to the used store they go.

love that voice!

Beth Orton also does several really great songs with various "electronica" artists - Chemical Brothers, William Orbit, etc - all are extremely interesting.
