HAHAHAHAHA!  Are these lyrics funny or really sad?

By the way, the edge of the world is just past your fingertips, right?

Rather reminds me of John Lennon after he left the Beatles.

Good song, not her best though.
I'm a huge fan, and always check in on her. Her latest is very good and different.
She's always interesting and stimulating, though I still find her 80s CDs the best - the T-Bone produced stuff (Martinis & Bikinis, Cruel Inventions). Yes they are very Beatley, and that's a major positive. But the lyrics are great too - when she was escaping (and commenting on) her Leslie Phillips years as a Christian rock figurehead. So many cool lyric puzzles.
Hey RP - play some of that stuff! Like "Lying", "Strawberry Road", "Standing Still" (yeah!), "Same Changes" etc.

Yes it sounds very much like it!
Its the instruments and the mix... sounds exactly the same. I love the piano sound... a bit "dirty".

Absolutely - they're one of her strongest influences. I saw her open up for Bruce Cockburn in Austin in the mid 80s and they both were fab-u-lous. Sad about the dissolution of her marriage to T-Bone Burnett, but apparently they're still friends (good enough for him to continue to brilliantly produce her albums)...

I really don't understand the point in writing a song, if you don't want people to know what it is. :(

Playful and cool and serene all at the same time. Who is this Sam Phillips and why does he sound like a woman? (just kidding)

Well, ain't I just a dumbass (that's rhetorical, BTW ;) ), I was at that site, on that page, but I didn't think the song titles were links.

Gotta watch those artist types, huh? :)

Face, don't give up so easily. Here is a link to Sam's site with all the lyrics: ~Sam Phillips Lyrics~

And the lyrics to this one:
I don't remember last night but they took my picture
There was a car in the ocean off of Suicide Bridge
The heart collector had his hands in me

At the edge of the world looking up

I heard what you couldn't say to me
You gave it away when you said it to her
You're a secret that I tell myself

Running through a thousand lives
Hoping there's one on the other side

At the edge of the world looking up

You're so afraid of what you want that you don't want it anymore
You wrote your message on my back and left but time will pull us to the floor

I don't know when I came to and remembered your fingers
I went back to the house but it was a vacant lot
This matchbook you wrote on is all I've got

I'm not falling down
Dreaming and singing without a sound
At the edge of the world looking up.

The song of the year (2001) from the best producer of the year (T-Bone Burnett) and his talented spouse, Sam Phillips, who is indeed channeling the spirit of John Lennon.

I often feel that I am on the edge of the world looking out, trying not to be too judgemental.
