Smashing Pumpkins w/o ANY of the original four (Chamberlain, Corgan, D'arcy, & Iha.) ain't Smashing Pumpkins! It was the timing and the way the four played together that made those first five years or so so special - some of the finest rock'n'roll ever produced, actually. Everything recorded after 'Siamese Dream', after their "fame", if you will, was just not the same (though 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' was special in it's own way - Corgan said at the time he was writing "The Wall for Generation X" - oy-vey!) The final nail in the coffin for the real Pumpkins (from Wiki); July 11, 1996, when touring keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin and Chamberlin overdosed on heroin in a hotel room in New York City. Melvoin died, and Chamberlin was arrested for drug possession. A few days later, the band announced that Chamberlin had been fired as a result of the incident. The Pumpkins chose to finish the tour, and hired drummer Matt Walker and keyboardist Dennis Flemion. Corgan later said the decision to continue touring was the worst decision the band had ever made, damaging both their music and their reputation Any new SP is like new G'n'R - a bunch of hired guns sadly trying to recreate a magic that was time and place - not just sound - which of course can not be done. |

Conservapedia is even further from encyclopedic by any stretch of the imagination - well, unless you imagine something like: "dinosaurs were created on day 6 of the creation week, approximately 6,000 years ago, along with other land animals, and therefore co-existed with humans". There are likely few "pop culture" entries since they probably abhor popular culture. |
