I love Spike Jones. Saw him interviewed once, and he was getting antsy. So he's in his kitchen, right? He picks up a couple of butter knives, the old very round '50s type, and starts "drumming" everything in sight. Cupboard, pots, stovetop, the cat. Turns out he started as a percussionist, and he was showing off. What a musician. And the City Slickers—what a band! Honk! Clank! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!

Thanks to hearing this on RP, this song made the cut for my Beatles Were Here (Beatlesque) compilation. This was a very fun and educational research project ... Check it out and tell me what you think: https://sites.google.com/site/tanamusicpicks/home/theme-beatles-were-here

I remember the song and the name "Spike Jones" but didn't know he did the song and at first, I thought you were talking about Spike Milligan (who else has heard of him?).

Well, I did see him in "the Bedsitting Room" in the middle of the 6th decade of the last Century.

Good get. It amazes me that out of all the legions of Brit pop bands, Radiohead emerged at the top of the heap, but arguably Albarn emerged with a more interesting musical legacy. Regardless, two giants, yes?

Lazy beatle-esque noodling...the doubled lead vocal for the 'effect' is a bit wearing. This doesn't do it for me.

There is something like pop parody in their music, kinda like the Dandy Warhols.  I like their album "13" a lot, which has some more serious efforts. It did not seem to be appreciated as much by their fans.

This is not as good.  We need some Gimme Gimmes on here!

Wrong - the Beatles were a major influence on Kurt - and you can hear it - Nirvana'a melodies are so beautiful - only hiding the pain and anguish of a sad tortured soul - all suicides are "self indulgent" to a degree but don't confuse your use of the term

The lyrics are saying "he saw" something, but I swear for awhile I heard "piss off" since its such a high pitch tone of voice.
