You're on top of the world
You're on top of the world and you can't
Get any higher-you're on top of the world
You're on top of the world tonight
It wasn't easy- it was hard as hell
You didn't get luck in a wishin' well
Never worked so hard- had so much pain
Wouldn't change for anything
Learned love from a movie screen
He was tough, she was wild at fifteen
Hated school and had no dreams
Wasn't going very far
Then he got religion and she got a god
It's on her back and it's in his job
And it costs lots of money, honey- oh, no
You're on top of the world
You're on top of the world and you can't
Get any higher-you're on top of the world
You're on top of the world tonight
Breakdown nearly every day
Shoulda known he couldn't get away
Got lucky with the girl next door
She was lonely and didn't care
She was young, she was dark, she was fair
Wrapped herself around you with her stare
You'd explode if she would touch you there
Touch you there- touch you there
Then he got religion and she got a god
It's on her back and it's in his job
And it costs lots of money, honey- oh, no
Tonight, tonight
You're on top of the world
You're on top of the world and you can't
Get any higher
You're on top of the world
You're on top of the world tonight
Tonight, tonight,tonight, tonight
You're on top of the world and you can't

You just gave me a flashbump. :-) From what I can remember of my misspent youth, I think I saw them back with the Cars and Foreigner at Cap Centre in Maryland.... Awesome show from what I can remember. PS> A flashbump is a goosebump caused by a flashback. :-) |

| coloradojohn (A Mile High and then some, Cherry Creek, Denver) | Posted: Feb 03, 2013 - 10:47 Wow, they really used to LIGHT THINGS UP, didn't they? I can't forget driving in Dad's Olds Vista Cruiser, before I got my own bad-assed Cutlass, and this came on the radio, and my buddy Karlan and I smoked another bowl, and as we rolled into the park to toss the Frisbee, we kept singing lines from it as we played...and they became a permanent fixture in our tape decks for years to come... In '82 or so I saw them play on SoundStage and got into them all over again...and every few years, same thing... Was blessed and lucky enough to see them play the 30-year Anniversary show at Budokan in Tokyo, too...and wore the T-shirt from that just yesterday and got thumbs-up from folks on the street... Because you know what? They STILL sound so darn good! Thanks, RP, for playing this! |

| SinisterDexter | Posted: Mar 25, 2012 - 05:42 Awesome, didn't expect to hear Cheap Trick here. One of the underrated bands of the 70's/80's IMO. |
| jpbergjr58 (Fox River Grove) | Posted: Feb 22, 2012 - 13:35 Ain't Cheap Trick without any of the four of them. None of the albums without Tom were all that good. One of the best live bands ever. |
| randyblew (Raleigh, NC) | Posted: Feb 22, 2012 - 13:14 Ha! No doubt, they truly were. I always kinda liked them, though not super crazy 'bout em. Carlos was one of the all time great, straight ahead - no bullshit rock drummers of our time. Was bummed to see he was not on the last tour, to me he is the big sound and driving force behind CT's sound. Does Candy Golde have anything available so I can hear them? Is Bun E. drumming??!! Would love to hear his chops again!! Cheers! |
| terry_whiterock (Vancouver, British Columbia Canada) | Posted: Nov 19, 2011 - 08:45 Thanks RP for playing one of my all time fave Cheap Trick tunes. This whole album is great, I remember hearing it for the first time back in '78 and becoming a fan im . . . , thanks for playing them! Especially that particular tune! Love it! |

I just read on line that Bun E. Carlos quit the tour and is not currently drumming with them!!???? I saw the band photos on the Austin City Limits site and he is not there. I was looking forward to seeing him and hearing him play again as he was really the driving force of their sound. Being a four piece and all, he was crucial to their awesome sound and straight ahead ROCK sound!! What a total DRAG! . . . . . sure hope he returns, I would not bother to go see them if the line up was not original . . . what is the point. Cheers, man and thanks again for the heads up on Austin City Limits! I agree but it is Rick's son "Daxx" on drums so that's kind of cool. |

MARKETING 101 in the 70's (btw, great song) If you know the band line up and remember the album jacket, Neislen and Carlos are on the back. The two cool guys on the front and two eccentric "dopie" looking guys on the back. hahahaha They were truly a really great rock band, all very good musicians in their own right. Don't hear that cut very often but it was always one of my faves. |
