6 a.m.
Day after Christmas
I throw some clothes on in the dark
The smell of cold
Car seat is freezing
The world is sleeping
I am numb
Up the stairs to her apartment
She is balled up on the couch
Her mom and dad went down to Charlotte
They're not home to find us out
And we drive
Now that I have found someone
I'm feeling more alone
Than I ever have before
She's a brick and I'm drownin' slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed to nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drownin' slowly
They call her name at seven-thirty
I pace around the parking lot
And I walk down to buy her flowers
And sell some gifts that I got
Can't you see
It's not me you're dying for
Now she's feeling more alone
Then she ever has before
She's a brick and I'm drownin' slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed to nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drownin' slowly
As weeks went by
It showed that she was not fine
They told me, "Son it's time to tell the truth," and
She broke down and I broke down
Cause I was tired of lying
Driving back to her apartment
For the moment we're alone
Yeah she's alone
And I'm alone
Now I know it
She's a brick and I'm drownin' slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed to nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drownin' slowly

The song embedded into a interesting story and setting. As opposed to the comments from Jack Black's "Barry" in the film High Fidelity. The Barry's in the RP listening world are just so fitter than you when it comes to this art form we call music. |

| malvey254 | Posted: Jul 13, 2012 - 10:32 The Ben Folds Five selections on RP are a travesty. I saw on the boards that Selfless Cold and Composed was shot down in LRC, but there are so many better songs than Brick and the other two available. Maybe the new album coming out in September will yield something RP-worthy. |

It's funny how even the right thing can feel like the wrong thing, even 6 years later. It's stories like this that should give politicians pause. Having an unplanned pregnancy can force a woman to make a very tough choice either way. The women I've known who chose to have an abortion struggled with the decision and were saddened by having to face that dilemma. One friend who had an abortion was herself the result of an unplanned pregnancy and grew up watching her mother have to deal with an unhappy marriage and a thwarted life. My friend did not want to repeat her mother's life starting at age 21. This is an intensely personal matter. A woman should have control over her body and her life choices. Reproductive choices shouldn't a political football for grandstanding idiots who just want to get elected. Byronape, I hope time heals your friend's pain. |

| impediguy | Posted: Apr 11, 2011 - 21:05 Let's face it, this song makes you feel. Wasn't that the aim of Ben's music? Hey, BFF never promised you a rose garden. Where there's sun, there's got to be some rain sometime. Feel it. The words don't particularly have meaning to me, but the mood does. I am very thankful for this song and for Ben providing an emotional experience that I would not have had. This song brings meaning to me although I do not understand. So melancholy, so perfect. I feel human again. |

There are 2 parents. 99% of the time, it is the woman. Alone. And BTW, I am a man. What it boils down to is one thing, BIRTH CONTROL! Condems, rubbers, gloves, sheaths, diaphragms, IUD's, pills, patches, foam, sponges, etc. Hell, if you don't have any of that, don't have intercourse. There are lots of other things you can do that are just as much fun. As for the song. Too whiny for me. |
