I can't stand Prince and I really like this, but then I like Patti Smith.

This is a noble attempt to cover the Prince song with an original twist, but it sounds like she took too much Valium before she stepped in the studio...  pure putrid buttmud and bad for the ears...

why would anyone listen to this crap. when you do a cover it's supposed to be better than the original or at least have a personal stamp that's interesting. pathetically bad effort.

WOW GREAT COVER, IMHO, of When Doves Cry - Patti Smith - Never liked the original much but this is gentle and sweet yet powerful - like Because the NIght, cool thanks for letting me know about this

{#High-five} Yes! Well said.

Why does this song have such a low rating? After doing a little research in the RP library it would appear that RP song raters don't have a great love for Patti Smith or Prince or this song. (although to be fair the original doesn't have a bad rating - 6.6) I do think this artist has a strong catalog and other songs may have rated higher. ....Who knows? {#Ask}

wow, i wasn't paying all that much attention, but the song didn't seem THAT bad, it was only at Bill's comment about this song getting no love that i actually pulled up the page... 38% 1 votes o.O holy cow!

I'm with you, Bob. Very cool. Also enjoyed The Missing Fingers truly wonderful Billie Jean earlier. Prince cover day.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion as much as I am to mine. Never was a Prince fan, but do like BGT cover, but then again, I like pretty much anything from BGT anyway.

One of those songs that you don't want to cover, almost impossible to do it justice. 2 from me.

Recent exposure to a muzak-like re-make of Billy Jean and this combined causes me to want to date William Shatner.

It's tempting to rate it higher than deserved, just because it proves how talented Prince is.

I don't know about this. No soul really. Nothing Compares 2 U was about the closest anyone's ever come to getting a Prince song right and when I heard a live version of that by Prince himself I was floored. Easy to cover because the lyrics are always great, hard to Master though.

81 RP Listeners can't be totally wrong... hence why this version of Princes' song keeps going down & down & down...

another country twang take on the song... and another southern headin' rating...

same diff, just wish it were burried in the south instead of re-infesting the 'air'waves from RP.

Dub out the vocals and this could be a good tune.
Patti, leave this one to Prince or whatever he's calling himself these days. :D
