![]() Become You (2002) [ larger cover art ] |
I heard you sing a rebel song
Sung it loud and all alone
We can't afford the things you say
We can't afford the warranty
Well I see you walking in the glare
Down the county road we share
Our southern blood my heresy
Damn that old confederacy
It took a
Long time to
Become the thing
I am to you
And you won't
Tear it apart
Without a fight
Without a heart
I'm sorry for what you've learned
(Learned)
When you feel the tables turned
To run so hard in your race
(Race)
Now you found who set the pace
The landed aristocracy
Exploiting all your enmity
All your daddy's fought in vain
Leave you with the mark of cain
It took a
Long time to
Become the thing
I am to you
And you won't
Tear it apart
Without a fight
Without a heart
It took a
Long time to
Become you
Become you
The center holds so they say
(It never held too well for me)
It never held too well for me
(The center holds so they say)
I won't stop short of common ground
(That vilifies the trodden down)
That vilifies the trodden down
(I won't stop)
The center held the bonded slave
For the sake of industry
(Ah)
The center held the bloody hand
Of the execution man
(Ah)
It took a
Long time to
Become the thing
I am to you
And you won't
Tear it apart
Without a fight
Without a heart
It took a
Long time to
Become you
Become you
It took a
Long time to
Become you
Become you

I didn't even know they were gay, I just thought this was ok at best. |
| moshevelvul (or velocity?) | Posted: Aug 23, 2005 - 14:08 sorta sounds like Travis - anyone hear it? |

| Rickvee | Posted: Nov 01, 2004 - 21:11 I totally agree with Roverfish - the Indigo Girls were never as good after NOMADS, INDIANS, AND SAINTS. This song is fairly lame. |

Long live the Indigo Girls! um yeah. that must be it. It couldn't be that this song isn't well like because it lacks any originality, or musical talent. well, whatever makes you fell good. btw - you said "gay girl bands" . are you afraid of using the L word? |

Mediocre music is mediocre regardless of the sexual preference of the musicians What a disappointing remark! |
| spoko (Newbraska) | Posted: May 03, 2004 - 17:36 Whoah. A song I actually like from the Indigo Girls. All their stuff sounds so monotonous to me. Which is not helped by the recent spate of imitators. But this song is all right. Not one of my all-time favorite songs or anything, but surprisingly good given that it's the Indigo Girls. |

| istanbulbaby (Asheville, NC) | Posted: Dec 09, 2003 - 11:13 Who? Kevdog? Or the IGs?
I don't think the song is that bad, but that's funny. |
| Roverfish (Tucson, AZ - Thanks for visiting, drive through!) | Posted: Aug 18, 2003 - 18:38 P'raps I'm in the minority here, but I think their music took a definite slide downward after Nomads Indians Saints. I guess I miss the "old" days of the IG's. |
| dignan2 (New York, NY) | Posted: Jul 29, 2003 - 08:54 When I am in hell, this song will be one of the songs playing. Thanks RP! |

| marycamacho (Spain) | Posted: Jan 30, 2003 - 02:51 This is one of their best albums - I love the way the entire cd flows. Makes me stop and think everytime I hear it. Great choice for RP. ![]() |
| rKokon (Colesville, MD) | Posted: Nov 26, 2002 - 10:44 The folky sound of this makes it my favorite of songs by this group that I hear on RP. They sound different from one cut to another, so I still do not have a general evaluation of them. Must look into them more. |
| eric (Secret Hideaway) | Posted: Sep 05, 2002 - 17:06 So f***ing sick of the IG. |
| stinky (Shippensburg, PA) | Posted: Aug 04, 2002 - 07:53 I've nothing against the I Girls, and this isn't a bad tune, but it's been a long time since I've heard "Save It For Later" by The English Beat. How about it?? ;) |
| smitchell (Eindhoven, ms) | Posted: Jul 26, 2002 - 04:13 PLAY MORE OF THESE ANGELS, PLEASE!!! |
| geotrash (Denver, CO) | Posted: Jul 15, 2002 - 22:48 Such a powerful duo. The introduction of their first album marked the turing point in my musical delights from the dark ages of classic rock, to the enlightenment of what, at the time, was alternative music. |
| bobringer (Mahwah, NJ) | Posted: Jul 05, 2002 - 17:37 A bit scared that I'm enjoying the two tracks we hear from these guys on RP. Enjoying them a lot... |
| TonyApuzzo (Boulder, CO) | Posted: Jun 24, 2002 - 12:12 Who cares what they are saying, it's how they say it. I love the flute and is there a banjo?... nah, probably not. |

| Jacques (Brossard, Qc) | Posted: Apr 18, 2002 - 10:09 Love it!!! The Indigo Girls first caught my attention in 1989... they were opening for R.E.M. here in Montreal, great act. After that, as is the case with commercial radio they dropped off the radar and I heard little or nothing more from the two except on our non-commercial Canadian radio network the CBC, (like the BBC, but without the accents). Radio Paradise has allowed me to rediscover them and this new tune is amazing, excellent and definitely a memorable melody! Cheers Jacques Radio Paradise - What Radio Could Have Been |
