The best album from the best soul singer of them all...the opening chords of this song still give me goosebumps after all these years...

Check out the Wikipedia entry on Marvin. His father did a number on Marvin and the family that spanned decades. The gunshot was just the final insult.

Doesn't work so great on long car trips when you hit the Edge (2G) wastelands in the midwest though.  I wish the Interstate highways were blanketed in 3G, but that's what podcasts and mp3s are for.  :)

After the first couple notes, I think 'Ahhh, Marvin'. So perfect, so sad.

This is what the 'Godlike' rating is for. Damn.

God I'm glad I grew up in the soul music era of the 60's and 70's. This white boy be groovin'. Really sad to see this sound disappear and  get replaced it seems by poetic junk called rap that has no peaceful feelings to it like this stuff, and wow, RP follows it up wiht Gimmer Shelter, the Stones, but ever heard Grand Funk Railroad's version. Yeah man. Far out man.

When I was a kid with a transistor radio, listening to this on CKLW out of Detroit, it sounded like he was singing "throw up on my hands."
