She doesn't care
Whether or not he's an island.
She doesn't care,
Just as long as his ship's coming in.
She doesn't care
Whether or not he's an island (oh no).
They laugh, they make money,
He's got a gold watch,
She's got a silk dress
And healthy breasts
That bounce
On his Italian leather sofa.
She doesn't care
Whether or not he's a good man.
She doesn't care,
Just as long as she still has her friends.
She doesn't care
Whether or not he's an island.
They laugh, they make money,
He's got a gold watch,
She's got a silk dress,
And healthy breasts
That bounce
On his Italian leather sofa
She's got a serrated edge
That she moves back and forth.
It's such a simple machine,
She doesn't have to use force.
When she gets what she wants,
She puts the rest on a tray
In a Ziploc bag..
(x2)
...in the freezer.
(ohh no)
She doesn't care
Whether or not he's an island.
She doesn't care,
Just as long as his ship's coming in.
(All right, here it comes, here it comes)
She doesn't care
Whether or not he's an island.
They laugh, they make money,
He's got a gold watch,
She's got a silk dress,
And healthy breasts
That bounce
On his Italian leather sofa.

I agree that the short and sweet instrumental in it more upbeat. But after listening to the lyrics, I can't help thinking about that character Ron. I'm thinking more a perverse version of They Might Be Giants -- quirky. Frank was not subtle in his satire; he went for the direct intellectual hit. |
| jayladdin (New York City) | Posted: Aug 23, 2004 - 12:10 There are so many awesome Cake songs (I Will Survive, Let Me Go, Meanwhile Rick James..., Short Skirt/Long Jacket, Love You Madly, Sheep Go To Heaven, Walk On By)...but this just isn't one of them. |
| tokyopoorboy | Posted: Jun 28, 2004 - 14:50 Y'know, you guys talk about the great lyrics, and the chorus really is pretty good. But that last verse, about the serrated machine... Bone stupid. Trying to be subtle and utterly failing, so it comes across as precious. When I read the British mags, I see this idiom once in a while. Had to guess the meaning from context, but I think I got it (but not the spelling): kack-handed. Fits. Had me going till then, though. But finally makes the narrator change from feeling superior to just being spiteful and jealous of the guy with the sofa. |

| PattonFever (wherever i go, there i am.) | Posted: Jun 28, 2004 - 14:21 denied. this is the only cake song that i really HATE. i think the reason for it is because i hate the way he says "italian leather sofa." i'm not sure what it is, but it makes me nuts. perhaps i'll warm up to it sometime later on. it's not an all around crappy song, that's for sure. i like cake. heh. also, to the person who was OMG SO OFFENDED by this song - i'm sorry that you think it takes a lot to offend you, because it obviously doesn't, if the line about healthy bouncing breasts offended you. if it wasn't that line, then please, tell us all what was so offensive about this song. i'm digging and digging and i can't find it. and it really does take a lot to offend me. |
