Nighttime slows
Raindrops splash rainbows
Perhaps someone you know
Could sparkle and shine
As daydreams slide
To colour from shadow
Picture the moonglow
That dazzles my eyes
And I love you
Just lying smiling in the dark
Shooting stars around your heart
Dreams come bouncing in your head
Pure and simple every time
Now you're crying in your sleep
I wish you'd never learnt to weep
Don't sell the dreams you should be keeping
Pure and simple every time
Dream of sights
Of sleigh rides in seasons
Where feelings not reasons
Can make you decide
As leaves pour down
Splash Autumn on gardens
As colder nights harden
Their moonlit delights
And I love you
Just lying smiling in the dark
Shooting stars around your heart
Dreams come bouncing in your head
Pure and simple every time
Now you're crying in your sleep
I wish you'd never learnt to weep
Don't sell the dreams you should be keeping
Pure and simple every time
Look at me with starry eyes
Push me up to starry skies
There's stardust in my head
Pure and simple every time
Fresh and deep as oceans new
Shiver at the sight of you
I'll sing a softer tune
Pure and simple over you
If love's the truth then look no lies
And let me swim around your eyes
I've found a place I'll never leave
Shut my mouth and just believe
Love is the truth I realize
Not a stream of pretty lies
To use us up
And waste our time
Lying smiling in the dark
Shooting stars around your heart
Dreams come bouncing in your head
Pure and simple every time
Now you're crying in your sleep
I wish you'd never learnt to weep
Don't sell the dreams you should be keeping
Pure and simple every time
Look at me with starry eyes
Push me up to starry skies
There's stardust in my head
Pure and simple every time
Fresh and deep as oceans new
Shiver at the sight of you
I'll sing a softer tune
Pure and simple over you
Pure and simple just for you

| kingart (Brooklyn NY) | Posted: Mar 06, 2013 - 12:11 Wow. I am so glad I am home today, shacked up in stormy weather, sucking gallons of coffee and listening to RP. Love this. Simple, almost bubble gum, but so upbeat nice. I got an Amazon gift certificate Christmas, still unused. 'Bout time. This one's going on the pod. I have come to the conclusion that RP may play some tunes I hear too much, or that cannot sustain many repetitions, but almost none are bad. Sure, some hit listeners the *this sucks* buttons, but I think that more often than not the fault lies in themselves, not these musical stars. Rock on, Bill. You'll be getting more of my money someday soon. Soon after I get a job, that is. |
| Rob_S (Lancaster, PA) | Posted: Mar 06, 2013 - 12:04 Glad that RP turned me on to this song a few years ago! |

The Lightning Seeds are also UK and roughly the same period (the Furs were out a little earlier), so no surprise. At least the Lightning Seeds guy doesn't do the talk-sing thing like Richard Butler. |
| rdo (DC) | Posted: Nov 16, 2012 - 13:49 The greatest song ever written, Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, could be played by a child with barely any musical training. No one will ever write another one equal to it. If you think this song is so damn simple, just try it yourself. |

Cue New Order bass solo... Agreed, thought someone stole New Order's bass there... |

| GuiltyFeat (Ra'anana) | Posted: Apr 28, 2011 - 02:09 This was playing on the mixtape that was broadcast on 1215 AM in the months before Virgin Radio first went on air in the UK. I could only pick up AM on my car radio so I was tuned to this frequency waiting for the station to go live for ages. This song reminds me of that excellent old car (a sky-blue Triumph Toledo) and of driving home in the middle of the night from wherever I was. Pure. And simple. |
