I have always liked these guys.  I always got the feeling they really did not take themselves seriously and where having fun.

Terrific seg. from the Black Keys "Sister".

That is what having a real human programing the songs is all about.

Born in '65, listening to this in the midst of yet another intoxicating crush on a cutie girl. I thought this was music at its finest. Now? Not too bad..

Hell yeah!  This band's break-out was maybe early or mid-70s...I heard Little Willy, first, I think, their smash hit on the radio in '74 or so...and Man From Mecca was the rocking flip-side of it on one of the first discs I went out and bought, as a kid...and then later, when the record Desolation Boulevard came out, fell in love with the jammers on that one, and this Best Of collection, too, in '78, as weed got way into the heads of all of us up and down the street — every day after High School got out, we slapped it on the turntable, turned up the sound, toked up the bong till the room reeked, and prayed we'd have time to air out and lay down a fog of Lysol by the time whomever's mom or dad got home...sure seemed like there was nothing better at the time!

Well, minus the O(rchestra), but the style's similar, I agree. Sweet were camper than a Millett's showroom and I usually couldn't bear them back in the day but they did come out with the occasional rockin' number, of which this is one. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

Sweet is the first band i'd ever liked. Nice to hear them on my favourite radio station.{#Sunny} But they'd recorded so many great rock songs - mostly underrated, not only here on RP. I think, the british "Chinnichap" producer team gave them a glitter rock image that avoided greater success. Listen to their first four studio albums - great music.

Many, and most were better than this.  Ballroom Blitz, A.C.D.C. , pretty much anything on "Desolation Boulevard".

This song was resurrected in my organic chemistry class as

love is like oxygen
in an acidic medium it degrades cumene
to a phenol

say what you want, but it helped us remember....

Not timeless, not interesting. Just kind of 'worst of 70s' kinda thing. I guess this could be a cleanse-the-pallet kind of song, but we need something really good up next.

The first time I heard this, I thought the lyric was, "Love is like a popsicle." Coulda been, and I don't think it would have lost much. {#Lol} Great song.

NOW I know the origin of one of the lines in Moulin Rouge!  {#Wink}

Christian:  I can't write for the Moulin Rouge.    Tolouse: But why not?

Christian:  I.. I'm not even sure I am a real bohemian revolutionary!

Tolouse:  What? Don't you believe in beauty?   Christian:  Yes.

Argentine:  Freedom?    Christian:  Yes, of course.

Satie:  Truth?    Christian:  Yes.

Doctor:  Love?   Christian:  Love? Love... Above all things I believe in love!  Love is like oxygen. Love is a many-splendored thing, love lifts us up where we belong, all you need is love!

Holy crap, yes! God bless RP for playing this. I was totally obsessed with this song for a month while I was in Europe in 2001. I finally found two different "best of" albums in a CD shop (attributed to "The" Sweet) and could get my fix, but it took me a while to track it down. Somehow this song just "got" me at that time. Still works for me, but not quite as much as it did then. ;-)

I'd stop short of attributing too much praise, but the opening riff is good enough to have kept it timeless.  The notion that a "Best of Sweet" album exists kinda' makes me chuckle, though....
