Interesting. 8. Really getting into some of her other songs, like on 8 seasons.

Which Album is Life on can't find it anywhere?

OK it seems to be on Gula Gula that is the album cover you have showing.

I think that's the first time I heard Sami, although it was probably featured at the '94 Winter Olympics and I just don't remember.

No, that's a snowy owl.

And this is deliciously good. My first time hearing Sami sung.

Thanks RP for showing us yet another far flung corner of the world and supporting those who speak and sing and dream in the 90% of languages that get drowned out in the daily torrent of english, spanish, french, mandarin, arabic, and hindi.

Certainly not the worst thing I've ever heard, but I'd be happy never to listen to it again.

Wikipedia entry for Mari Boine:

"Mari Boine Persen is a Norwegian Sami musician known for having added jazz and rock to the yoiks of her native people. Boine (born 8 November 1956 in Finnmark, Norway) grew up amid the Laestadian Christian movement as well as amidst discrimination against her people. She was asked to perform at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, but refused because she perceived the invitation as an attempt to bring a token minority to the ceremonies. Gula Gula (1989, Real World) was her breakthrough release, and she continued to record popular albums throughout the 1990s."

4 in the morning is a good time to be awake, however, I would rather listen to Gasparian (moon shines at night).

Kinda Bjork meets Peter Gabriel/Tony Levin, atmospherics courtesy of David Sylvian and Holger Czukay. Interesting, quiet, introspective. Curious as to what she's singing about, besides the general category of "Life."
