I love how this song can be playing in another room and l'lI hear the bass line and just sort of drift in to sit in front of the speakers. Very cool sounds. Thanks for playing these folks Bill!

As an alternative to Radio Paradise, I have a Porcupine Tree Station on Pandora and some of the bands they pair up that I've discoved there include : Riverside, Russian Circles, to name a few. If you love this band, PT, as much as I, it is worth checking these two out. Riverside in particular (they are from Poland) are very close to PT in sonic reproduction quality and they really are very good song writers.

I also saw this in concert and was very impressed. All time favorite band to see live.

So good of them to clarify .3 in parentheses.  Here I was thinking I was missing the first two points until I saw that on the next line.

Me thinks Bill's favorite band is Porcupine Tree. This is third time today I've tuned in — and the third time a PT track has poured forth. Eh, Bill?

Actually the two tracks were originally one long track, as is still audible in the bass this one opens with.

The BASS in this thing is just wicked, and the percussion, too, and I love how it stalks right up behind you and then the ethereal vocals and keys come in and...SONIC BLISS!  Thanks to RP, otherwise I likely would not have heard of nor be jamming so much to PT!

(My favorites, however were the Hungarian band "After Crying" and the Italian band "Banco del Mutuo Soccorso". Sadly, the tickets for NEARfest sell out seconds after going on sale, and so, I haven't had the opportunity to get back to that.  But it was a fantastic event. RP should have a drawing for those tickets! ;-)

I just last week did a year by year review of Village Voice's annual poll of polls of the critics' year-end lists and only one PT CD ever appeared at all (I stopped looking after about 200 or 300th place), and that one was not even in the top 100 for the year it appeared!!  These guys have really managed to fly under the radar.  I put them very high in one of my Amazon lists, so there is justice in the world!

That's a good point but we are listening to the song out of context with the rest of the album. In Absentia (to me anyway) is very much a concept album.

Also a good point.  Unfortunately, with the preponderance of 99 cent iTunes single song downloads, many great works are no longer heard in their original context. Imagine Dark Side of the Moon being experienced only by listeners as a collection of single unrelated tracks the whole of the work would be completely lost.  I admire PT for continuing to treat their ideas within their work as an  "album" of interrelated pieces all combining to create a musical whole.  In Absentia is a truly great contemporary (in comparison) work of progressive rock.  We need more- certainly not less.
