Winston is on piano...it's Keola on slack key guitar. :-) As albums go, this one's just ok. If you want to check him out, get Wooden Boat (1994). Still an excellent tune. |
| KitKat (Chicago) | Posted: Aug 04, 2005 - 21:02 Ah, island music!!!! Too bad there's no hula emoticon. I did part of grad school in Hawaii and my last night there I went to a concert with Keola Beamer and several other musicians -- Raymond Kane and ??? -- then back to the East-West Center where a full out party was on and we danced all night. Too bad all of grad school wasn't like that. 8O Slack key is cool. The tunings are unique to the players and passed down from teacher to student (uncle to nephew, for instance). Used to be people wouldn't share their tunings very easily, which used to freak out the haole visiters. It's a kama'aina thing, bra! Guess that's changed. |
| lester | Posted: Jun 06, 2005 - 22:49 All the notes dance ever so lightly on the ear. I'm being turned on to slack key guitar works. I'd heard of it before, but just the term. Thank you RP -- another window to the world opened. |
| Old_Pool_Skunk (Whayyy out there.) | Posted: Apr 23, 2005 - 23:48 Hawaiian? Huh? This is just plain good. |
| physicsgenius | Posted: Feb 09, 2005 - 09:12 Intricate and cool. I don't know where the Hawaiian comments are coming from, but I still like this. |

Saw the Beamer brothers perform at the Barnes & Nobles (or was it Borders?) near Waikiki. What a great impromptu show. If this is Hawaiian music, where is the uke or the slide guitar? lol. I like GW, I saw him at UCLA once, but he played the piano. |
