Which guy? The sax player? 'Cause at the time of this recording the sax player was BALD.

Oh yeah, and Bela, the banjo man, had a fairly normal non-ponytail do.

I'd rather hear Jaco Pastorius' version of "Blackbird".

I totally detest the mixing of this piece - my take is that Bella sounds like he's muttering about how annoying this song was to begin with (yeah, heresy) and how, no matter what can be done with it, it's still an annoying song.

Generally like Bela Fleck. Don't enjoy this song. One bit. Oh well. Sh*t happens...

Now THIS is getting dangerously close to old-time Elevator Music. You know, when you couldn't play the Beatles' own "Michelle" because those long-haired boys might UPSET some people...

Please, play some OTHER Bela. (Just not Lugosi)

I thank RP for bringing Bela Fleck into my little world. I'd never heard of him & them. Michelle, however, just doesn't translate well in this version. It's almost annoying, but not quite. :-s

I like Bela Fleck, but if you like this stuff, you should check out the 'Pickin' On' series. Some of that stuff blows this out of the water.

Butch Baldesari and company taking on the Allman Brothers, The Stones, Aerosmith, Zepplin, Beatles, Pink Floyd. Some real incredible stuff.

Purists might hate it, but if you like bluegrass and like different arrangements of your old favorite classic rock, it's definately worth checking out.

Nice to hear Bela Fleck here, though this may not be the best representation of their works.

Although Howard Levy is an incredible "harpist", I don't miss him at all in the current Flecktones lineup/sound. I think they did the right thing by parting company after the first few albums.

This is nice, but I really liked the Bluegrass Sessions. Got anything there, Bill?

Good luck getting anything resembling bluegrass played. I'd love to hear that too, though. :nodhead:

I like this a lot. I'm surprised by the not so hot ratings. The RP listeners seem to like just about everything from the Beatles, and they like Bela, so I would have guessed this would be a winner! That's ok though. Just another surprise from RP!

Bravo. Bela & co. took a song that everyone knows (be it love or hate, we all know it) and turned it inside out and upside down. Proof that a great musician can make cheezy sound sublime.

unless I'm mistaken and Meyer was a guest on this track, it sounds to me just like Vic Wooten, the Flecktones' own amazing bass-cadet.

Not often that I find myself consulting the nuances between
"sucko-barfo" and whatever comes just a notch above.I'm more than usually tolerant of some of the genres that some purists deride as "elevator music" but this really did conjure up a shopping mall. It was my least fav. Beatles'
treacle-pop in the first place. :(
