I used to drive a Mercury Tracer wagon. Bought it because there was plenty of room for my hockey gear. Because I was buying a wagon, the salesman at the dealership jokingly accused me of being a single guy in search of a family.

Funny guy...

El Rayo X at the Cat... Some of the best times evar!!

He played this tune on a steel with an eight-ball shifter, polyester pants, and friggin' greasy, greasy hair.

Bring 'em back !!

But for some obtuse reason, whenever I hear Lindley, I cannot help but think of the tune

If you have not had the pleasure of hearing David live, do so. From his rockin; blues to his middle eastern  folk, there is nothing he does that is less than stellar! And buy some of his coffee.

This CD is one of my most prized pieces of music bought back in the 80's .

This was played quite frequently on the old type radio in So. Cal. when it came out.

I've already rated this a 10, but I have to say that I was in the middle of a very heavy, difficult, dark post, and this came on, so I totally forgot everything I was going to write - it just somehow negated the sobriety of my comment in favor of a riotous, raucous good time.

Viva raucous good time!  Um, what was I saying again?

...this 1981 recording covered a thirty-year-old song, originally written in 1949, and now we're listening to this recording thirty years later, in 2011...that's kind of mind-boggling to contemplate how incredibly old that 1949 original must have seemed when this cover was released, yet here we are just as far from this cover, today in 2011...

I was at that show! It was awesome, especially Lindley. I remember that Los Lobos did a LOT of songs in Spanish.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I remember not being that impressed with their set.

Ry Cooder and David Lindley - Jesus On The Mainline, Live (1994)

"This is some superb footage of Ry Cooder with David Lindley, Bobby King, Terry Evans, Willie Green and Joachim Cooder shot at the 1994 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Just don't ask me what the sub-titles mean - or who the bloke at the beginning is (but he does look strangely familiar) "

Finally!....a song that makes me proud to drive a Mercury!....Jaguar can't say that now can they?...at least to my knowledge...but I'm quite sure if there's a song with Jaguar in the title someone will let me know right away...until then I'll be jamming to my new car song!

Footnote 5/24/2004----my Mercury is on the fritz...perhaps I'm not so crazy about a Mercury afterall

Probably wanting to crank up the volume when listening to a song, on whatever system you're using, is the best criterion for liking it. I surely cranked this one up!
