They say Taylor was a good girl
Never one to be late
Complain, express
Ideas in her brain
Working on the night shift
Passing out the tickets
You're gonna have to pay her
If you wanna park here
Well, mommy's little dancer
Has quite a little secret
Working on the streets now
Never gonna keep it
It's quite an imposition
And now she's only wishin'
That she would have listened
To the words they said
Poor Taylor
She just wanders around
Unaffected by
The winter winds, yeah
And she'll pretend that
Well she's somewhere else
So far and clear
About two thousand miles
From here
Well, Peter Patrick pitter-patters on the window
The sunny silhouette won't let him in
Poor old Pete's got nothing, cause he's been falling
Somehow, Sonny knows just where he's been
He thinks that singing on Sunday is gonna save his soul
Now that Saturday's gone
Sometimes he thinks
That he's on his way
But I can see
That his brake lights are on
He just wanders around
Unaffected by
The winter winds, yeah
And he'll pretend that
Well he's somewhere else
So far and clear
About two thousand miles
From here
Such a tough enchilada
Filled up with nada
Giving what she gotta
Give to get a dollar bill
Used to be a limber chicken
Times have been a tickin'
Now she's finger lickin'
To the man
With the money in his pocket
Flying in his rocket
Only stopping by
On his way to a better world
If Taylor finds a better world
Then Taylor's gonna run away

| garycha (Bristol, UK) | Posted: Jun 10, 2010 - 04:39 I really enjoyed Jack Johnson in 2005. It hasn't dated that much and I don't find it irritating (as I do James Blunt grrrrrr), but I do think he has made a few LPs too many of the same thing. I admire his low key, laid back approach, and see no reason to knock him just because the middle classed surf wanabees picked up on him too. "Cookie Jar" is still a fab JJ track. |

Now that I've heard it, its sounds so much like the typical coffee shop, internet cafe stuff that is neither obnoxious or offending but at the same time lacking of any real interest or quality. In other words, it's very "Dave Matthews" sounding, which means it belongs in the garbage can (or in the case of my last DMB disc-flung out my car window in total frustration of lack of musical originality). litterbug. |

Alton Brown wrote: Imagine a flower: A climbing orchid, to be exact; the one of some twenty thousand varieties that produces something edible. Now imagine that its blooms must be pollinated either by hand or a small variety of Mexican bee, and that each bloom only opens for one day a year. Now imagine the fruit of this orchid, a pod, being picked and cured, sitting in the sun all day, sweating under blankets all night for months until, shrunken and shriveled, it develops a heady, exotic perfume and flavor. Now imagine that this fruits name is synonymous with dull, boring, and ordinary. How vanilla got this bad rap I for one will never know. Perhaps all it will take for you to just enjoy a little good, lighthearted music is a different point of view. I personally love that he was a pro surfer before being a pro musician. He also is happily married and a father. Maybe what you're missing in his music is teenage angst? What I think is fantastic about Jack is his ability to put out a song that you can just nod your head to and enjoy, totally unaware of the serious lyrics he's singing: AMG wrote: He playfully expounds on America's sickening dependence on material things ("Gone") and its subconscious ill will with today's youth ("Cookie Jar"). Other views on world war ("Traffic in the Sky") and a capitalistic, business-obsessed way of life ("The Horizon Has Been Defeated") are gently reflected upon without reproach. Johnson doesn't need to be an aggressive messenger to get his point across; the monumental sales of Brushfire Fairytales make that quite clear. People are listening to Johnson's musical commentary because he's on their level. He's not a philosophical preacher like his counterpart, Harper. On and On keeps things simple in sound and time. The only noticeable change is that Johnson didn't lyrically restrain himself. There are 17 solid tracks featured on On and On, each one is a spiritual groove rooted in funk and blues. In dire times, Johnson is sunny and sunny always feels good. |
