I saw her live some months ago and the voice although not perfect (whose is always?) was husky and full of character, soul and good melody. She was always very personable with the audience, ya know, spoke and joked. Kin'a an 'nusual band for that set with hard rocker guitarist, country rock guitarist, cellist and the usual. Her keyboarding was fine too. Albums I've heard are at leeeast average to better than average. Great live artist in a small venue. See her if you can :) |

She has an EP, which I read somewhere had a different version of a couple of songs that appear on Happenstance. I haven't heard it though. Have to say I like the album version better. This version seems overproduced. |

I knew I'd heard her somewhere before. I find her phrasing a bit like the singer for Ivy. Find it a bit off-putting; she's trying to sound pained and heartfelt, but comes off almost as if she's singing phonetically. |

Well, she used to be in a whiteboy-funk band named Bumpus, but she's more of a brooding-piano-chick like Tori Amos than a jazz/blues singer. While this album is a thoroughly worked-over studio production, her EP really highlights her "chick on a piano" style. For those who want to hear more, I'll be uploading more tracks from this album; we'll see if Bill adds them. Frankly, this tune is one of the two that were obviously crafted for VH1 and radio airplay. I like it anyway, but there are better on the album. |
