| ulibcn (Barcelona Spain) | Posted: May 31, 2008 - 16:33 Very nice songs, all these Jobim pieces. Although... the appeal of Astrud Gilberto's voice has always escaped me. So shallow, so inexpressive, so boring... I guess more than her quality as a singer it's the memory of a truely golden age of music. |

| lathyris (Houston, TX) | Posted: Dec 26, 2007 - 07:25 Jobim has got to be the most underrepresented artist on RP. His collection is vast and revolutionary -- I say we need more! |

| coloradojohn (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, Japan -- 15 min. west of Shinjuku, center of the freaking Universe) | Posted: Mar 02, 2007 - 23:58 Yeah, always a fave. That purring Portuguese, that oddly-syncopated Brazilian sound, that hauntingly happy music, so evocative of a bygone era -- but as always, timeless whenever heard. More of this, of Joa and Astrud, too, anytime, please, Bill! |
| celadonstone (Southeast of the USA) | Posted: Feb 15, 2007 - 07:43 DAMNIT! Just missed another fave while doing something else and had the volume turned down. I love bossa nova.
Thankfully I have Astrud Gilberto's CD in my car.I'll probably add this one. |

But the combination of Gilberto's guitar and smooth voice and the incredible sound of Paul Desmond's sax.......good stuff.
I grew up listening to this album, my folks being ensnared by the late 50's Bossanova craze. The irony of this post is that "Corcovado" is from the same album, Getz/Gilberto, that is "Girl From Ipanema". And it's Stan Getz's sax. Jobim plays piano and Joao Gilberto guitar. I also grew up with this stuff--from the early '60s actually--courtesy of my father's enthusiasm before it was overtaken by Beatlemania. I still have his Verve mono LPs. |

| kazuma (Austin, TX) | Posted: Dec 18, 2006 - 19:23 I needed to hear this tonight and I didn't even know it. And I've never heard it before either. I hear odd echoes of Donald Fagen's "New Frontier" ... which, I assume, probably came out long after this did. |
| dreadpixie | Posted: Dec 04, 2006 - 05:31 Thanks for a great song to go with my morning cup of tea. Still waking up over here. |
| fredriley (Nottingham, UK) | Posted: Dec 04, 2006 - 05:31 Is this RP's jazz hour? The last two tracks got a 2, this is a 1 - looks like RP's on a bad run right now from my viewpoint :( |

| bobrk (Beautiful Downtown San Jose) | Posted: Aug 23, 2006 - 18:47 I think this is the wrong album. It should be Getz/Gilberto featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim. It's the same album that has Girl from Ipanema. I listened to it daily for many years. Here it is: (click here) |
| lathyris (Austin, TX) | Posted: Jul 25, 2006 - 12:28 Aww yeah! Thanks for this -- Jobim is magnificent. Check out Wave; the entire album is classic. |
