It's not really about football, you know...

This song makes me sad. FoW have a load of really good rock/pop songs, and yet this Oasis knock-off is one of the few that gets played on RP...

This song is a good example of why I like FOW so much... it's such a picturesque set of words that it leaves itself open to personal interpretation. Of course the song is just about drug culture, but there's also something so inspiring about the spirit behind "out of the blackness, into the great big sky." It could be the drugs expanding your mind, but it could also be these kids waking up to the larger world.

Ok, there's my over-analysis.

Fine, but what exactly is wrong with his voice?  Did he have a cold on the day of the recording??  {#Tongue}

Okay, since we're sharing lyrics, here's one of my favorites from the album, "All Kinds of Time":

The clock's running down
The team's losing ground
To the opposing defense
The young quarterback
Waits for the snap
When suddenly it all starts to make sense

He's got all kinds of time
He's got all kinds of time
All kinds of time
He's got all kinds of time
All kinds of time

He takes a step back
He's under attack
But he knows that no one can touch him now
He seems so at ease
A strange inner peace
Is all that he's feeling somehow

He's got all kinds of time
He's got all kinds of time
All kinds of time
He's got all kinds of time
All kinds of time

He thinks of his mother
He thinks of his bride-to-be
He thinks of his father
His two younger brothers
Gathered around the widescreen TV

He looks to the left
He looks to the right
And there in a golden ray of light
Is his open man
Just as he planned
The whole world is his tonight

I don't know if there is a music video for this one, but I've already gotten one written in my mind: the football play, the fans, cheerleaders, the family around the big screen, it's all in super-slow motion, except of course for FOW, singing the song at regular speed on the field amidst the players moving in slow motion around them...

Multi-colored microbus
Plowing over rugged terrain
We're jacking the radio
Passing the afternoon train
Around the roses she showed us
Hyacinths and sage
Gold plated garden tools
Sunlamps and it's all the rage

Stay low to the ground or they'll sniff you out
You never know what you will find
When you go

Out of the blackness
Into the great big sky
Supercollider
Shooting inside your mind

Gather round the gas tower
Don't it kinda look like a bong
I heard it backwards
Hidden in a Pink Floyd song
Stella Radiata
It's got to set your mind at ease
Spinning on the tire swing
Flying like Tarzan through the trees

And back to the bus when the sun goes down
Try to aim it back into town
We're riding

Out of the blackness
Into the great big sky
Supercollider
Shooting inside your mind
And coriander grows along the banks where we go walking along at night
Creeping slowly over the ground
We tiptoe round the garden
Trying not to tramp it down

Stay low to the ground or they'll sniff you out
You never know what you will find
When you go

Out of the blackness
Into the great big sky
Supercollider
Shooting inside your mind

or maybe Prom Theme

Here we are at last
The moment soon will pass
We'll go our seperate ways
We'll vanish in the haze
We'll never be the same
We'll forget each other's names
We'll grow old and lose our hair
It's all downhill from there

But tonight we'll reach for the stars
We'll rent expensive cars
And dream our dreams
Of a perfect night
And we'll sing our prom theme

Here we are at last
We're running out of gas
The air is getting thick
The girls are feeling sick
We'll pass out on the beach
Our keys just out of reach
And soon we'll say goodbye
Then we'll work until we die
------- Brilliant!

But tonight we feel like stars
We'll play our air guitars
Cause we're eighteen
It's a perfect night
To sing our prom theme

OK, I'm done for now.

My Favorite - though it's really hard to define one:

Sick Day

And here is the man pushing paper past her
Thinks up ways to make the day go faster
But the day goes on and on
He dreams of his lawn

And all about
the pretty careerist
the next cube over
The fat secretary,
the lunchtime lovers
'Til the path train finally comes
The platform's full of bums again

And she's making the scene
With the coffee and cream
And the copy machine's not working
She's a hell of a girl
She's alone in the world
And she likes to say "hey good lookin'"
She's on her way
She's taking a sick day..soon
