Rusted brandy in a diamond glass
Everything is made from dreams
Time is made from honey slow and sweet
Only the fools know what it means
Temptation, temptation, temptation
Oh, temptation, temptation, I can't resist
Well I know that she is made of smoke
But I've lost my way
He knows that I am broke
But I must play
Temptation, oh temptation, temptation, I can't resist
Dutch pink and Italian blue
He is there waiting for you
My will has disappeared
Now confusion is so clear
Temptation, temptation, temptation
I can't resist
Temptation, temptation, temptation
I can't resist
Everything is made from dreams
Time is made from honey slow and sweet
Only the fools know what it means
Temptation, temptation, temptation
Oh, temptation, temptation, I can't resist
Well I know that she is made of smoke
But I've lost my way
He knows that I am broke
But I must play
Temptation, oh temptation, temptation, I can't resist
Dutch pink and Italian blue
He is there waiting for you
My will has disappeared
Now confusion is so clear
Temptation, temptation, temptation
I can't resist
Temptation, temptation, temptation
I can't resist

I'd certainly feel temptation if Diana were singing to me in that sultry smokey voice So, you're rejecting the Tom Waits original because he's a man? (Just teasing you, Fred.) Gotta say - Diana Krall has a scary way of seducing men and women with her voice - I've heard the original, but this rendition just makes me weak in the knees. And by the way - temptation will be a mainstay in life - it'll always be there, so you CAN resist it, knowing it'll manifest itself again and again. Choose your temptation. I'm pretty sure there's a wise saying in there somewhere, but I'm tired, so I'll leave it to someone else to extrapolate. |

She (her bassist actually) added a great deal to the first few seconds of the song, as far as I'm concerned. After that, I'll take Tom's version. |

A few years ago my date and I found ourselves alone with Mr and Mrs C in the back section of a good Vancouver restaurant, and seated close enough that I could have tapped Elvis on the shoulder with my bread knife. We could hear every word of their conversation (kids, what he did in the studio that day etc) and it took a real effort for us to not sit there silently eavesdropping and at the same time carry on our own conversation realizing that they could hear us, too. My date had on a pair of vintage patent leather black and white flame Doc Martin oxfords that E gave a few sidelong glances, but it never turned into a conversation opener. Now I can say I had dinner with Elvis and Diana...and that they like their Bloody Caesars extra spicy. |

Diana certainly has both down in spades I am amazed by her performances, considering its a little mill town on the coast with no real Jazz music community around it to foster this kind of talent. Maybe its the laid back lifestyle, the grey skies, the rain ... who knows I think she was raised on old jazz standards, her father's records. |
| preachersson (Hollywood, CA) | Posted: Feb 27, 2008 - 15:10 This one is tough, it's ok but the original by Tom Waits is amazing! I wouldn't say this cover does it much justice. |
