(When the darkness falls like a curtain
And the night ahead is a long and uncertain dream
Beyond the loss and the hope of redemption)
At the broken heart of the city
Where the hollow light of day never reaches in
A man can break down and fall into pieces
He will fall asleep like a baby
And the unforgiving arms of the cradle
Rock as hard as the face of the city pavement
Hide your eyes
Hide your eyes
He can see the face of a lover
In the lonely face of the angel above him
Carved into the stone that is changing around him
He can feel her breathing inside him
And the unforgiving visions deny him
Life can only be what a man can make it
Hide your eyes
Hide your eyes
Sunday morning
Yellow sky
The sun is floating diamond high
Hours passing
A baby cries
In the arms of someone you imagine
Close your eyes
This is your lullaby
Close your eyes
This is your lullaby
He can feel his skin like a prison
Like a dying cage he struggles to live inside
He tries to call out but nobody hears him
At the ragged edge of the silence
In the calm that only comes with the violent sleep
Inside the heart and the hope of redemption
Hide your eyes
Hide your eyes
In the heart of someone you imagine
Close your eyes
This is your lullaby
Close your eyes
This is your lullaby
(Down, down, down
Would the fall never come to an end?
Wonder how many miles I've fallen
Must be somewhere near the centre of the earth
How funny it will seem to come out among the people
Who walk with their heads downwards
Down, down, down
Down, down, down
Would the fall never come to an end?)

The first album is one of my favorite albums of all time. If you can get it, it is well worth a listen. Err, I'm kind of glad they broke up. |

| ProfessorFrink (10 seconds in the future) | Posted: Jul 03, 2007 - 11:48 Doesn't do it for me. Also, any song that contains lyrics about "babies crying" automatically lose a point. |

| nigelr (Coffs Harbour, Australia) | Posted: Jun 02, 2007 - 04:00 Feeling that this could grow to a 9. Very, very nice song, great bass work too. |

| Tim55 (Western, New York) | Posted: May 01, 2007 - 18:24 I like this version but I've heard it live with both the November Project and OP III line ups. Both seem better than the album. Saw OP III a couple years ago at club passim in Cambridge. Great concert and great sound. Some people may miss Mary Fahl but the line up that night was outstanding! Glad we made the trip. |

WXPN, the excellent UPenn station here in Philly gave them lots of support when that album came out and they developed a nice following here before they broke up. (Yes, I know they've re-formed but without Mary Fahl's vocals, it isn't really OP, is it? IMHO.) October Project was founded by three college classmates, two of whom married and write the songs (Julie Flanders and Emil Adler). Mary Fahl's voice developed quite a bit through working with Emil and Marina Belica, who mainly sang harmonies and second lead on the first two albums, so if you like Fahl's voice tip your hat to her former bandmates. I'm an OP fan; the music and lyrics are quite substantial, especially in comparison to most popular music. Investigate the time signatures on their music and you may be surprised at the complex rhythms that Emil uses. Impressive stuff. |

I am an absolute fanatic fan of OP! *edit* Nov 16, 06 I always turn the volume w-a-a-y up when October Project comes on, which is not nearly enough for my taste. Their lyrics are amazing... Though at first listen they may appear to be mere love songs, listen closely, they are songs sung to the Beloved, the Soul. passionate and inspiring. Lovely. |
| Zane-O (Melbourne, FL) | Posted: Aug 06, 2006 - 08:59 What a great group! And what a shame they are no more (with Mary Fahl anyway). This second album I find a little better than the first. The songs are stronger overall. But both are first rate regardless. |

| magsterz | Posted: Jan 13, 2006 - 08:31 OH MY GOD. This confirms that Bill is a true kindred spirit. I've been waiting to hear October Project on RP, and he plays one of my favorite songs ever. Anyone know what these musicians are up to these days? So sad they broke up. |
| Zweiblumen (Boston, MA) | Posted: Jan 13, 2006 - 08:31 Saw them live at a tiny club in Harvard Square in Cambridge MA. Awesome show, what a beautiful voice Marina Belica has, and what amazing lyrics in many of their songs. Paths of Desire is my favorite, but I don't dislike any of their stuff. |
