Indulging inaccuracy I'm picking apart my friend Lizzie
Throw another word on me and watch me hurl it back
I know you! (I swear I do)
You're just like me- You're sipping a cup of pity
Aw!
Did I forget to mention I'm the centre of attention
In my universe my pain's my pension
I know you! (I swear I do)
You're just like me-You're sipping a cup of dreams
Yeah!
Soul sloshing-don't shush me
Just listen to me -pretty little kitty in the sky
The bass of my laughter-my gut is the speaker
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Sweet is my surprise!
Self involved security, yet you are such a part of me
And somehow what we do seeps into me, seeps into you
It's subtle-it's creepy knees
It's condescension versus humility
I know you! (I swear I do)
You're just like me- You're sipping a cup of pity
Aw!
Did I forget to mention I'm the centre of attention
In my universe my pain's my pension
I know you! (I swear I do)
You're just like me-You're sipping a cup of dreams
Yeah!
Soul sloshing-don't shush me
Just listen to me -pretty little kitty in the sky
The bass of my laughter-my gut is the speaker
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Sweet is my surprise!

| southend (Boston, MA) | Posted: May 18, 2006 - 06:26 I really like her voice. Sort of like Bjørk except it's good, with some depth and personality. A bit of finesse and strength. |

As long as users don't personally attack each other, I think we should all be able to say what we want about the songs we hear. Here, here. I enjoy reading the diversity of opinion about the diversity of music played on RP. I would only add that not only should we refrain from personal attacks, but also from decending into racial, religous and political feces slinging. There are many other forums on the web for such debate. To me RP is about musical and artistic expression and critique. Rock-on! |

That means that there needs to be some solid pretty likeable stuff punctuated with some riskier stuff. There needs to be diversity, but also quality control. There should be a few songs with attitude, and some stylish stuff that we listeners can claim is proof of our ultimate coolness, And there should be some stuff that is perhaps not so iconoclastic, but just plain appealing music that a lot of people can get. The point is that ecelctic radio is not any one of those things - it's all of it. Please relax and let us enjoy this groovy little diddy that maybe doesn't quite beam with the intellectual accumen that you like - from whoever it is that you do like. I for one find that the song carries me from here to there, and doesn't make me wonder if there is something better on another station somewhere. The depth of the negative comments on this particular Venus Hum song up here seem just a smidge over-dramatized. Perhaps a little posturing for effect. While it may not be the best song you heard today, other people have different favorites, and whatever we do let's not make eclectic radio into something smaller.

| CinnamonGirl (Port Townsend, WA) | Posted: May 12, 2005 - 20:48 Hey, I agree with the "chill" comments. I've never heard this track before. I've been working intently with RP on for about 1 hr and this song made me sit up, say, I like this, dial in the web site and find out who it is. I may not want to hear this song every day but I like the groove, the texture, the spirit. Thanks |
| troubadour27 (Nashville, TN YEEEEEEEEEEHAW!) | Posted: May 09, 2005 - 14:15 Its funny, back in the day when I was working with Kip and he played some of his music at the store - I hated it. I wondered how far he would go in Nashville trying some sort of Pop/Techno collaboration with a happy-happy, joy-joy sound. I just didnt get it. He had to ride his bike to work, rain or shine, because he had no car. He and Tony put themselves into serious hock to put together their first demo album. I actually started to feel bad for him because day after day, year after year they kept at it never loosing faith that someday theyd make it. Then bang - they did make it, Im listening to Kip, Tony, and Annie on RP and I couldnt be happier for them. They definitely earned it. Their music sorta reflects their attitude and tenacity. Ive become a fan. |

I agree with some of what you say. I like this song quite a bit. However, perhaps the mark of a good artistic effort is that it is stirs persistent commentary rather than fading into oblivion. I never got the "getting music" concept. I get opening oneself up to new things, but ultimately either you like it or you don't. The comment section is just that, a comment section. Some are more thoughtful and some are knee-jerk. We can all tell those apart. In a forum like this you have to expect both - but certainly it's ok to express both enjoyment or disdain. |

I dunno...I'm the opposite. for reasons I cannot explain, this song's sounding better to me as time goes on. It's purely meaningless pop/dance pablum, but I can't keep from tapping along with the song. Maybe it's because Annette Strean looks cool in her nerd-chick glasses. I dunno. |
