Not again, I'm off to listen elsewhere. Unbearable frankly!

A "10" on the guitar playing...a "5" for the lyrics...a "1" for the guy's voice...averages out to a "5".

I was wondering why I rated this an 8, bumped it down to 6.. it's back to an 8 now.

Thank god for the weblink to the lyrics; I'd never have known what he was actually saying otherwise...

Sure, he can play.
But can he play tastefully?

Yep great technical skill, pity about the lack of a tune for much of the song.

Sounds like one of those musical instrument demonstration shows. A triumph of skill over substance.

I guess you have to see Monty play and get those sounds out of an acoustic guitar to appreciate this song. He's an amazing musician and the things he can do with a guitar are amazing.

Darn, I thought I liked it until I started reading the comments. I was like "finally, a DMB song I can say I like". Then the Billy Joel comments totally harshed it for me. I will stick with my initial rating, though.

hmm, maybe if he finds a new singer...

I like the guitar, pretty good feel, but the singing.... yeesh.

giving it a 6 for now, just looking past the singing, hopefully his voice won't make me lower it.

Ha ha! That's funny that the last few commenters either came on to lower their previous rating, or just flat out hated this song. I actually came on to raise my score one point, and to say that I don't usually like this sort of thing (ongoing guitar noodling) but for some reason, I do like this track. I'm raising it from a 6 to a 7. For today anyway.

I'll admit, his songwriting (and haircut--those chipmunk comparisons are apt) leaves soemthing to be desired--but he is a tremendous guitarist, good singer, and puts on a great show!

Btw, this track was recorded live from his Austin City Limits taping. Youtube video here:

Gotta love Monte. So his singing isn't great??? How far would Jimi Hendrix have gone if he was a vocalist? This guy is one of a kind; excellent singer, songwriter; his guitar playing speaks for itself.
