It is amazing how far this version has gone, taking into account that it is Banderas singing ... a 5 because it is fun to listen ;-)

I assume that was David Hidalgo playing the 'lead' guitar parts. Anyone know?

With all due respect to Mr. Banderas ... he should stick to acting, which *sometimes* he actually did pretty well (in particular, at the beginning of his career when working with Pedro Almodovar) ... Salud! {#Cheers}

Pepe MARIACHI by ~JoniGodoy
Jonathan Godoy N. ©2007-2010 ~JoniGodoy

Robert Rodriguez was the commencement speaker at the University of Texas (Austin) last May (seems he and my daughter are in the same graduating class - his graduation was deferred slightly after the overnight success of his movie El Mariachi which he developed while a student).
He opened by saying that he had always wanted to wear a black evening gown - HA!

Scene 451 – The italian uncle is stoned and wandering through the estate  . . .  enjoying the mariachi dancers, their effusive perfume, the seductive smiles, and radiant garments flailing in the ecstasy of abandon and libation. He (the uncle) sits on the veranda and reaches for his pipe. The sun is dropping below the vineyards. "Magnificent!," he thinks. "this is the majesty of creation, reaching beyond the cosmos . . . into my view."

The production values on Desperado were much higher, of course, but I thought El Mariachi was more of a film than a movie.
