The sanest days are mad
why don't you find out for yourself
then you'll see the price
very closely
some men here
they have a special interest
in your career
they wanna help you to grow
and then syphon all your dough
why don't you find out for yourself
then you'll see the glass
hidden in the grass
you'll never believe me, so
why don't you find out for yourself
sick down to my heart
that's just the way it goes
some men here
they know the full extent of
your distress
they kneel and pray
and they say:
"long may it last"
why don't you find out for yourself
then you'll see the glass
hidden in the grass
bad scenes come and go
for which you must allow
sick down to my heart
that's just the way it goes
Don't rake up my mistakes
I know exactly what they are
and... what do YOU do?
well... you just SIT THERE
I've been stabbed in the back
so many many times
I don't have any skin
but that's just the way it goes

JMPO, but it drives me up a wall every time I hear it (from Morrisey or anyone else). methinks ye've been in the jungle too long, lad. |
| notremotely | Posted: Sep 05, 2008 - 09:25 Sigh...first time hearing Morrissey on RP. Love it. (And I haven't listed to Vauxhall in many years, so this pick was a gem.) What an exciting morning this is turning out to be...I thought I'd already maxed out the 'Hey, wow' factor this morning, hearing Postal Service here for the first time, too. But apparently Bill is a crafty one! (Thanks for a great Friday so far, Bill!) |

| kcar | Posted: Jan 28, 2008 - 19:05 Great song, and really great album. I got this by mistake from a music club and was not pleased at first...but I think it's one of Morrissey's better solo efforts. |
| Pharlap | Posted: Oct 26, 2007 - 13:37 Reminds me of why we admire British actors so much, they are not afraid to show emotion and expression in their voices. Yes his favorite subject is his own unrequited love, but this guy has the most distinctive (at least to my ears) voice in rock. |

Point well taken, perhaps, as to the music, but Morrissey doesn't write his own music! He has always relied upon guitarist-collaborators ( most notably Johnny Marr, in the Smiths) for his melodies. His collaborator, writing all the music, on this song is Alain Whyte, and some responsibility for the arrangement can also perhaps be assigned to the producer, Steve Lillywhite. I do agree that it fails to meet the standard set by Moz's collaboration with Marr, who is simply the most innovative and brilliant guitarist and composer to come out of the UK in the past twenty years. This is merely okay, not brilliant. |

yeah, yeah...or as I put it...he's a whiny, self obsessed boring wimp and he won't stop letting us know it. |
