Filled with pathos, the pain she expresses hear rips the heart to shreds with a hope never to be fulfilled.

This week finds me all over the place, musically, although I usually am, anyhow. I like and am willing to listen to just about anything, except maybe the specialized category of easy listening death metal prog electronica country. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Joan Osborne - "Baby Love" Live

"She's singing it beautifuly, but yeah, there is some kind of strange effect on her voice"

"You're right. This one is baaad. Joan Osborne has a naturally beautiful voice. This sounds like they used a vocoder. "

I can't listen to Fiona Apple because she is ALWAYS off pitch. Joan bends the notes on purpose and her emotional pitch is perfect.

Only after too much whisky. Otherwise she is quite upright.

Love it.  But it is more of a late night track, rather than a sunny morning toon.

Great contained playing and fitting vocals that suit the overall feel of the track. Maybe some here would prefer some software-enchanced over-emotive vibrato warbling (you know the Pariah Carey, Christine Aquilira way) with the neck veins standing up to show FULL performance.  Me, i prefer the restraint.

Nice one Bill.

Joan has some amazing chops better suited to other material. Her contributions to "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" are exceptional.

I heartily disagree. The manner in which she wraps her voice around various notes and bends them ... she is First Class in my book. In concert (Lilith Fair, etc, she has the most incredible stage presence. And yes her band is most excellent.
