The weird thing about Kaye is that she has, indeed, played on many excellent songs. Why she persists in claiming credit for songs on which she did not play is very odd, especially considering the fact that there are so  many people who know better.

There's a woman named Carol Kaye who claims to have played bass on this song.  Nearly everyone, including Stevie, has brushed it off as untrue.  This is one of Jamerson's best in my opinion.

Too bad this isn't played on so-called oldies stations anymore. They've gravitated to 80's stuff, and a lot of the great mid-to-late 60's songs are gone. Quite a shame. I hear a lot of Billy Joel and The Eagles tunes instead of Stevie and Johnny Rivers, even many Beatles'
tunes aren't played any more.. As a former oldies DJ, it breaks my heart. Thank you, Radio Paradise! I'm flooded w/ memories.

Self edit: the one finger was the right or picking hand—not the left that actually fretted the notes. Playing bass with two fingers is hard enough, but one, a holdover from one stand-up bass style, is simply amazing.

Yeah, I liked called to say i love you more at the time than I do now.  Never liked Ebony and Ivory.  In fact, I though Paul really took a nosedive after leaving the Beatles.  In any event, Stevie had enough excellent songs to overshadow the few stinkers.

DAMN I love this song! I try hard to limit my "10's" to the very very best of the best. This is absolutely in that category. I really can't think of a dog Stevie's done, but to me, this is the top.
