![]() Sheryl Crow (1998) [ larger cover art ] |
I woke up this morning
Now I understand
What it means to give your life
To just one man
Afraid of feeling nothing
No bees or butterflies
My head is full of questions
And my house is full of lies
Chorus:
This is home, home
And this is home, home
This is home
I found you standing there
When I was seventeen
Now I'm thirty-two
And I can't remember what I'd seen in you
I made a promise
Said it everyday
Now I'm reading romance novels
And dreaming of yesterday
Chorus
I'd like to see the Riviera
And slowdance underneath the stars
I'd like to watch the sun come up
In a stranger's arms
Chorus x2
I'm going crazy
A little every day
And everything I wanted
Is now driving me away
I woke this morning
To the sound of breaking hearts
Mine is full of questions
And it's tearing yours apart...

| xtalman (What dimension?) | Posted: Dec 06, 2012 - 09:20 She looks a bit scary in the cover art. Nice tune, I have always liked her. |
| ziakut (Slightly North of Obvlivion) | Posted: Dec 06, 2012 - 09:15 One of the better Crow tunes. Understated, pure and simple. Unpretentious and calming...yet sad. |
| Keef (Confluence of the American River) | Posted: Dec 06, 2012 - 09:15 Thanks for playing Sheryl Crow. |

Ordinary people living simple lives: www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1Ij3rV_ZS4 i sure like this song but i'm not sure about the video. Too much of a dichotomy between the "ordinary people" and Crow. most everyone at the fair looked weathered and not very happy and Crow comes along with heavy makeup and looking sultry. it kind of creeped me out.. |

| Cynaera (South of Neanderthal) | Posted: Mar 15, 2011 - 15:37 I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Sheryl Crow's music. She always looked so tough onstage, but could sing the most tender, haunting and heartbreaking songs. I can't say anything bad about her. And she's worked (and toured) with Stevie Nicks! I love this song. Wasn't it used in the movie "White Oleander"? |
| newwavegurly | Posted: Mar 15, 2011 - 15:36 This song is the opposite of the song "Feels Like Home" written by Randy Newman sung by Linda Ronstadt/Bonnie Raitt/Chantal Kreviasik. Both are haunting in their own right, both referring to "home," and both bring tears to my eyes. |

Agreed—I lost interest in her later works but when she was this hippy girl who had paid dues she was pretty great—not to mention that she had some pretty good support from artists such as David Baerwald in the beginning. Listening with headphones you can really appreciate the backing she had then. Unfortunately I think she burnt some bridges and lost herself while climbing the ladder to success. |
| ziakut (Chicago, IL) | Posted: Oct 28, 2010 - 18:31 A real gem. Under played when it was released, which makes it wonderful here. Like her relaxed unpretentious sounding voice. Backing vocals are soothing and creamy. Love it! |

| choffman2001 | Posted: Aug 23, 2009 - 18:44 Love Sheryl, love her work... this song is one of my fav heartbreakers. For something the same but different, give a listen to "The Difficult Kind" from The Globe Sessions... at the time that came out, I sure could relate. Played it on the way to work, every day, and sang along LOUDLY. |

| oldkcscdj | Posted: May 20, 2009 - 15:16 Sheryl has a real knack for the bad relationship song and the breakup song, and I can't think of a song that sounds more like a love song but is actually an "I hate it here" song than this one. I love the song but find it heartbreaking at the same time. |

I'd agree that Crow does not yet have the body of work of Mitchell. But in the days of Court & Spark, Mitchell was a simple folk singer trying for commercial pop success. Not much different for Crow at this point, imo. |
