It's not working for me I'm afraid. I was a big fan of August and Everything After which barely made an impression on the rest of the UK, but since then they have been sunk by their own earnestness (Shrek notwithstanding).

This is right up there with "Raining in Baltimore" for melancholy. RP 192kps stream  shows the pitch and timbre that adds so much atmosphere too. I loved it.   solid 9

As for the twonks arguing if the strings are real or not, who cares?   Although before being too emphatic about it, maybe they should consider that a string quartet (2 fiddles, viola and cello) was retained by CCs and is credited on "This Desert Life" (CD from which this track comes) sleevenotes.

I guess the string players were out having tea, whilst Colorblind backing was being laid down - so the keyboard player had to wing it....{#Clap}

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Once you hear the difference, it's impossible to un-hear it. For me it breaks the mood completely. Imagine if you were listening to a string quartet, and one of the musicians was playing a Casio keyboard. Would you be able to take the performance seriously?

I can't speak for the cello, but the flute sounds fake to me.

Fun Trivia Fact: You can easily compare the difference in quality between keyboards by comparing the flute sounds for each keyboard. The flute sound is perhaps the hardest instrument to fake electronically.

I like the Counting Crows overall, and this is one of their better, but not their best, songs.

As soon as I heard the opening notes, I thought how much I love love love this song too! It makes me think of someone from my past. It's a nice memory.

While it may be on the "Cruel Intentions" Soundtrack, it's also included on their album "This Desert Life" - a solid album, but even in that context, this is a stand-out tune. It's like a little detour the album takes, before getting on with the alternating up-tempo pleading and mid-tempo angst that makes up most of the disc (and I'm not complaining about the other material - I love it - but this song is something all its own).

No idea if it was written with the bulk of the material on the album, or if it was a leftover from other sessions (I'm sure someone will tell us) but it's a fantastic, simple tune. Almost embarrassingly direct, but somehow it works.

Glad to see it slipping into the RP rotation.
