"I'm sorry that I left you
With your questions all alone
But I was too happy driving
And too angry to drive home
I was thinking about the easy courage
Of my distant friends
They said I could let this bridge wash out
And never make amends
Can I blow this small town
Make a big sound
Like the star of a film noir postcard
Can I just forget the frames I shared with you
And I can't believe what they're saying
They're saying I can change my mind
Start over on Spring Street
I'm welcome anytime
Well there are Spring Street storefront daisies
Floating on their neon stems
There are new shirts on the clothes racks
Should I feel like one of them
I can find a small apartment
Where a struggling artist died
And pretend because I pay the rent
I know that pain inside
Yeah, let's watch the tour bus stop and tell us
Here's the scene of a spring green life dream
Take the best part
Write it in your caffeine diary
And I can't believe what they're saying
They're saying I can leave tonight
Start over on Spring Street
I'm welcome anytime
This year April had a blizzard
Just to show she did not care
And the new dead leaves
They made the trees look like children with gray hair
But I'll push myself up through the dirt
And shake my petals free
I'm resolved to being born
And so resigned to bravery
Yeah the one who leaves this also grieves this
Too much rain on a prairie flood plain
Houses floating, love is like that
We built on the river
And that's to say, yeah I'm leaving
But I don't have to go there
I don't have to go to Spring Street
'Cause it's spring everywhere... "

Same here. It leaves me cold. |

I would rather not. Ho-Hum |

| Gribnif | Posted: Oct 10, 2005 - 08:20 I feel the same way about this song as I do all of hers. She's a good singer, but her music is not the least bit interesting. There's nothing to make it stand out from the whole genre of folksy-guitar rock. Even though I don't particularly care for Indigo Girls, for instance, at least they are capable of producing something different from time to time. Everything I've ever heard from Dar sounds pretty much the same. |
| kctomato (KC) | Posted: Oct 10, 2005 - 08:15 There is an annoying sound emminating from the left channel that sounds like a phone ringing. Otherwise an OK tune. |

| Roverfish (Tucson, AZ - Thanks for visiting, please drive through!) | Posted: Aug 26, 2005 - 23:53 Even when I'm not crazy stylistically about a tune, I always seem to enjoy hearing Dar's voice, and that keeps the ratings up. Definitely likeable. |

| MrSpaz (Orlando, FL) | Posted: Jul 13, 2005 - 12:43 For some reason the lyrics make me think of a crazy person who has just figured out that they can check themselves out of the asylum whenever they want. |
| jenseda (Small Town Southwest) | Posted: Jul 13, 2005 - 12:43 Really dig Dar Williams and am surprised that I don't hear more of her good stuff on RP. Good job throwing it in. |
| JTRox8 | Posted: Jul 13, 2005 - 12:43 Man, I love Dar! No Dar hating on my end! I actually just joined RP so I could rank this song a 9. Can't wait to see her in a few days at Falcon Ridge! |
| Ennis | Posted: Jul 13, 2005 - 12:41 I really like this song, I'm torn between an 8 or a 9, but I'm a stingy rater and I feel like the middle of the song doesn't quite hold up to its early promise. I just love that opening and beat. She does it even better live. Thank you, Bill. For all her limitations as a singer, I would love to hear more Dar here. |
| JCEntMan (Land Of Cold and Snow) | Posted: Jul 13, 2005 - 12:40 Nice to here some more Dar here. A good song off a great album. |
